The Business Data Analyst will work as part of the Analytics and Decision Support department. The primary purpose of this position will be to enable the University through data and information for improved decision-making. This position will work closely with other business data analysts to develop technical requirements and comprehensive solutions to extract and transform data from multiple source systems for business use. The ideal candidate will understand the importance of balancing customer requirements/feedback while also performing data analysis using various tools and techniques.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Analyze workflow issues and data integrity problems, provide recommendations on resolution, and advise management accordingly.

2. Conducting and leading projects to accompany the transformation of Liberty’s business processes through the effective collection, processing, and visualization of data.

3. Document and optimize business processes by researching industry best practices and supporting the development of solutions for current business operations.

4. Develop a deep understanding of core business processes and how performance is measured, and work with business units to discern strategic and analytical data and analytics needs and gaps.

5. Utilize diagnostic/predictive/prescriptive analysis to derive business insights and direct/drive action that increases revenue, decreases cost, and/or mitigates risk.

6. Possess a thorough understanding of University systems and data sets, and be able to summarize and describe raw data sets for departmental use. Support validation processes to ensure data accuracy.

7. Analyze data to align with organizational goals and relay business impacts of findings through data-driven recommendations.

8. Collaborate closely with business units and provide expert input on functional business topics.

9. Streamline business processes by leveraging new or existing technology, including application and reporting development, while adhering to internal development and publication standards.

10. Provide operational support to assigned business units' systems, including technical assistance.

11. Provide regular updates to customers on business process improvement and new technology activities, maintaining a high level of customer service.

12. Occasionally works outside of normal business hours to support system upgrades, business unit-specific deployments, or timely technology business requirements

13. Collaborates effectively with peers, colleagues, leaders, and business partners to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality results. Demonstrates excellent communication and influencing skills.

14. Mentor junior analysts on standards, best practices, and advanced analytics techniques

15. Supports the development of new policies and facilitates training and communication efforts. Assigns work as appropriate and proactively reviews outstanding requests.

16. Assists department leadership with daily coordination of duties, projects, and tasks, including supporting the interviewing process for new hires.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES  

BDAIV may supervise a team of other Business Data Analysts.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALSEducation and Experience

BDA I

Minimum Qualifications

  • Interest in data, reporting, or analytics.
  • Basic experience with Excel or similar tools or willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Bachelor's degree and one year of relevant experience, or apprenticeship in a Liberty Information Services position with supervisor recommendations is required.
  • Exposure to SQL or database concepts is preferred.
  • Experience with Excel, Access, Argos, Tableau, or SSRS is preferred.

Physical and Sensory Abilities
  • May be required to travel.

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the campus.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.

WORKING CONDITIONSWork Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled setting.  It is well lighted, and the noise level is moderate. 

Driving Requirements

If the employee is required to travel in performing the duties and responsibilities of the position, the use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel.  Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required when driving in the performance of the employee’s position.

Pay Range

Compensation is determined based on factors such as qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, along with University needs and external market conditions. Market benchmarks may be used, as appropriate, in combination with internal equity to ensure pay is fair and aligned with the broader compensation structure.


The position may also be eligible for comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and tuition assistance.



$45,000.00 - $55,000.00
