Business Development Manager
Location:
Based within the defined territory, preferably near a Chubb Regional or Branch Office. The role reports to the VP, Regional Business Development Leader, and the St. Louis and Schaumburg Branch Managers. Position is located in Illinois (excluding Chicago) and/or Missouri.
Job Summary:
The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for driving business development within the assigned territory, focusing on brokers, agents, and other distribution partners. The primary emphasis is on Chubb’s Small Commercial, Middle Market, and Financial Lines products and services.
As a key ambassador for Chubb, the BDM manages agency relationships, leads new client acquisition, and oversees ongoing client management. The role is accountable for achieving key performance metrics, including Gross Written Premium growth, new business production, profitability, new agency appointments, and increased market visibility.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate a successful track record of engaging insurance brokers and agents within a defined territory.
- Develop and execute tactical sales plans to achieve annual objectives, including market share growth, new agency appointments, and revenue targets.
- Generate new business opportunities through proactive business development activities with assigned brokers and agents.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners locally and regionally to support business growth.
- Consistently achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual production goals.
- Collaborate closely with commercial underwriting staff and local field operations leadership.
- Ensure Chubb’s products and services are competitively positioned in the market.
- Manage a pipeline of key customers to meet and exceed growth objectives.
- Serve as the primary point of contact and relationship manager for assigned producers.
- Effectively manage daily, weekly, and monthly goals and tracking responsibilities.
- Work with underwriting to evaluate, price, and propose strategies for small to large commercial accounts.
- Manage assigned workload to meet internal productivity and timely service standards.
- Minimum of 5 years of underwriting and/or broker/agent sales experience; business development experience in commercial lines preferred
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience
- CPCU or CIC designation recommended
- Ability to work independently and quickly assimilate information from various sources
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
- In-depth knowledge of Chubb commercial coverages, products, services, and liabilities
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work as a self-starter
- Capable of making independent decisions using Chubb best practices for guidance
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable working with highly visible and demanding customers
- Able to work effectively in a team and matrix reporting environment
The pay range for the role is $100,000 to -$150,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in the Sales Incentive Plan. Based on Sales Scorecard results, a Business Development Manager can earn up to 100% of their salary; actual results may vary.
