Job Description:

The Job/What You’ll Do:

AssetMark is seeking ambitious, results-driven sales professionals to join our Business Development organization as a Business Development Specialist (BDS). This role is built for individuals who want more than a traditional prospecting position - it combines meaningful sales responsibility, broad exposure across the organization, and a structured path to develop toward future sales opportunities.

Each BDS will support Business Development Consultants across an assigned region and will help create new advisor engagement through outbound prospecting, meeting generation, and event outreach. Because the role partners with multiple sales teams, successful BDSs will gain visibility into how territories are managed, how advisor opportunities develop, and how experienced sales professionals move conversations forward.

The BDS role offers a rare combination of immediate contribution and long-term development. You will work alongside experienced sales professionals, gain exposure to multiple territories and selling styles, build relationships across the organization, and create a visible record of performance. For someone who wants to prove what they can do and prepare for the next step in sales, this role is designed to provide that opportunity.

The BDS role is designed to give high performers the opportunity to build a measurable sales track record while learning directly from BDCs, Regional Consultants, and sales leaders across AssetMark.

The total compensation for this role includes base plus a competitive sales incentive plan target as detailed below.

Compensation: The Base Salary range for this position is between $50,000-$60,000.

This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location.

Additionally, this position is eligible for an annualized Sales Incentive Plan target of up to $60,000.  The achievement of the Sales Incentive Plan target will be based on performance to clearly stated goals and metrics.

We can consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to our office location in Chicago, IL, Charlotte, NC, or Phoenix, AZ.

Responsibilities:

  • Own high-volume outbound prospecting to financial advisors across an assigned region
  • Execute targeted campaigns and identify advisor needs, catalysts, and potential business opportunities
  • Schedule qualified meetings for BDCs and drive advisor participation in AssetMark events
  • Conduct timely follow-up and capture meaningful advisor intelligence in Salesforce
  • Partner with BDCs on target prioritization, messaging, and territory-specific prospecting strategy
  • Participate in selected regional and Ensemble Team meetings and observe advisor sales conversations
  • Learn how opportunities progress from first contact through discovery, deeper engagement, and handoff

Development is a core expectation of the role. BDSs will receive structured coaching and practical experience in:

  • Cold calling, prospecting strategy and objection handling
  • Advisor profiles, discovery and business needs identification
  • AssetMark positioning, investment capabilities and platform solutions
  • Salesforce, pipeline discipline and territory management
  • Advisor meeting preparation, follow-up and opportunity development
  • As proficiency increases, BDSs will gain greater exposure to live sales situations and increased responsibility

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to initiate conversations with prospective clients
  • Energized by outbound prospecting, follow-up, and working toward activity and meeting goals
  • Resilient and persistent when facing rejection, with accountability for results
  • Curious and coachable, with the ability to apply feedback quickly
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage outreach and accurately document activity
  • Able to build productive relationships with advisors, BDCs, and internal partners
  • Interest in learning about financial services, financial advisors, and AssetMark’s solutions

What Success Looks Like:

  • Consistent outbound activity and disciplined prospecting execution
  • Meaningful advisor conversations, qualified meetings held, and event attendance generated
  • Strong partnership with BDCs and regional sales teams
  • Accurate Salesforce activity, follow-up, and handoffs
  • Continued growth in discovery, objection handling, business knowledge, and sales readiness

Education & Experience:

  • Previous sales, business development, or financial services experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated drive, sales potential, and coachability are also valued
  • Active FINRA licenses: Series 6, 63, and 65 and/or Series 7 and 66 are required
