Who we are looking for:

We are seeking a proficient strategic category manager to join our team at Atkore. This position will be based out of our Corporate Headquarters in Harvey, IL and will report to the Senior Commodity Manager. As a category manager, you will oversee and optimize the performance of Indirect category spending within the company. This includes negotiating with suppliers and working with buying consortiums, leveraging expertise to source advantageous terms and maintaining strong supplier relationships. The category manager will work closely with cross-functional teams to establish optimal pricing structures and opportunities to ensure cost competitiveness in the Indirect spending categories.

What you'll do:

  • Conduct thorough market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, competitive landscape and customer preferences and provide actionable plans.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive category management strategies to achieve business objectives and drive growth.
  • Maintain robust category management tools and processes, ensuring seamless strategy execution across the organization.
  • Monitor and evaluate category performance, leveraging key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective measures.
  • Lead supplier negotiations, ensuring favorable terms and conditions to drive cost savings and strengthen supplier relationships.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and corporate functional teams to identify new strategic sourcing opportunities.
  • Execute cost savings initiatives and implement rollout strategies across the company.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, competitor activities and technological advancements to provide recommendations to management on emerging trends.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business, Engineering or other related major
  • 3+ years of experience as a category manager or relevant procurement experience
  • Strong decision-making abilities driven by data analysis
  • Experience in vendor management and negotiations
  • Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, category management tools and software for data analysis and reporting
  • Strong decision-making abilities driven by data analysis

Within 3 months, you’ll:

  • Complete your Atkore immersion program
  • Ability to collaborate cross functionally and link category manager role and show value across the company
  • Monitor commodity markets for variability in pricing and supply
  • Evaluate strategic sourcing initiatives, develop a cost savings funnel with project ideas to achieve savings
  • Creates purchase orders and facilitates all changes and expedites reconciles pending invoices and updates master file records as needed.

Within 6 months, you’ll:

  • Understand the business well enough to own and drive operational activities with minimal supervision
  • Develop KPI’s and dashboards to measure progress and performance of suppliers
  • Conduct cost and supply analysis and developed a strategy to achieve cost savings in multiple categories (e.g., MRO, Office Supplies, Packaging, Company Cars, equipment and services)
  • Investigate and implement cost saving proposals including alternative sourcing, alternative materials, optimized supply planning, supplier and material consolidation, and efficient freight-in costs.

Within 12-months, you’ll:

  • Develop and communicate long-term strategic sourcing plan and road map to achieve saving across the supply chain
  • SME for Indirect category management spending for goods and services
  • Evaluated supply chain opportunities and actively working with buying consortiums and global purchasing groups (GPO) to leverage category spending across the company

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $99,440 - $136,730.  Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time.  Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
