We have an exciting opportunity for a Chief IP Counsel to lead a global team of IP professionals supporting GE HealthCare’s $19B+ healthcare enterprise. This role will provide an opportunity to engage with GE HealthCare’s executive leadership team to shape a forward-looking intellectual property strategy while also providing pragmatic business counseling across the business.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and strategically manage GE HealthCare’s global IP portfolio, including patents, trade secrets and trademarks.

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team of IP counsel, patent agents, and legal professionals across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Engage with senior leadership and technology leaders to cultivate a culture of innovation across GE HealthCare.

  • Collaborate with business leaders, R&D teams, and other stakeholders to ensure that IP strategies and initiatives are forward-looking and aligned with business objectives.

  • Provide deep transactional and dispute resolution expertise to enable growth and mitigate risk.

  • Develop and promulgate IP-related policies and procedures to address emerging trends and regulatory requirements.

  • Accountable for managing annual IP budget and engaging stakeholders to make adjustments aligned with GE HealthCare’s investment strategy.

  • Partner with other members of the Global Law & Policy team to enable the business.

  • Leverage data and new technologies to drive continuous improvement across the IP function.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15 years IP-related experience including several years in Senior IP leadership roles, preferably in a large corporation in a medical or technology-focused industry.

  • Demonstrated experience providing counseling and due diligence support in the context of M&A transactions.

  • A Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law (and in good standing) in the United States.

  • Registered patent attorney with the USPTO.

  • Ability to work in a hybrid capacity with 3+ days at a GE HealthCare location in Waukesha, Wisconsin or Chicago, Illinois.

  • Experience managing complex IP transactions, litigation and disputes.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience in a publicly traded healthcare or life sciences company.

  • Demonstrated negotiation and persuasion skills, with the ability to effectively represent GE HealthCare’s interests in licensing negotiations, litigation, and other IP-related matters.

  • Ability to dynamically set priorities for team to align with business dynamics.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with senior executives, internal stakeholders, and external partners.

  • Familiarity with digital health, government contracting, AI, and data privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).

  • Deep understanding of IP law across jurisdictions, including U.S., EU, and Asia.
