The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will design and automate cloud infrastructure using Terraform, ensuring secure, compliant networks and document operational procedures while collaborating with multiple teams.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Cloud Infrastructure Engineer with a primary focus on Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience architecting and delivering cloud infrastructure through Terraform-based automation in secure, regulated environments. While hands-on experience with Azure Government Cloud is preferred—and AWS GovCloud experience is also desirable—direct government cloud experience is not required for highly qualified Terraform/IaC engineers.
This role will support the design and deployment of Landing Zones, cloud foundations, and application migration architectures within Azure (preferred) or AWS environments.
Work Location: Remote USA
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Terraform subject matter expert, building reusable modules, automating infrastructure provisioning, and enforcing IaC best practices.
- Develop, deploy, and maintain Landing Zones or equivalent cloud foundation frameworks in Azure and/or AWS environments.
- Support application migration projects by designing scalable, secure cloud architectures and implementing the required infrastructure through IaC.
- Build secure, compliant network and identity architectures including VNET/VPC design, segmentation, policies, RBAC/IAM, and monitoring.
- Collaborate with DevOps, security, and application teams to define standards, guardrails, and automation patterns.
- Continuously optimize cloud environments for performance, reliability, and cost management.
- Create and maintain architecture diagrams, IaC documentation, and operational procedures.
Qualifications
- Expert-level proficiency with Terraform—including module development, testing, state management, CI/CD integration, and Git workflows.
- 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, or infrastructure automation roles.
- Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code principles, cloud automation, and environment lifecycle management.
- Working knowledge of cloud architectures including compute, networking, identity, security, and monitoring.
- Experience with at least one enterprise cloud provider (Azure preferred; AWS also valuable).
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Azure Government Cloud (preferred) or AWS GovCloud
- Experience building Azure Landing Zones or AWS Control Tower–style landing zone architectures
- Certifications such as:
- Azure (AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-700, AZ-500)
- AWS (Solutions Architect, SysOps, Security)
- Equivalent hands-on experience will be considered in place of certifications
- Proficiency with scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash)
- Experience supporting government, defense, or highly regulated environments
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, DoD IL levels)
Travel
