Job Description

Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented CNC Programmer to join our precision machining team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for programming, setting up, and test out operation of 3-axis and 4-axis CNC mills, interpreting complex engineering drawings, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize machining processes. This role requires expertise in CamWORKS, CAD/CAM software, and hands-on experience with Mazak and Doosan machines.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Program and operate 3-axis and 4-axis CNC milling machines, including full setup and troubleshooting.  
  • Machine complex and irregularly shaped components with high precision.
  • Interpret GD&T and engineering drawings to ensure dimensional accuracy through self-inspection.
  • Determine optimal speeds and feeds for various materials including stock, extruded, and cast.
  • Collaborate with team members to support CNC programming and process improvements.
  • Apply statistical tools such as X-bar charts to monitor and improve quality.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives including DOE and Lean manufacturing tools.
  • Develop and maintain CNC processes including setup sheets, tooling lists, and standard work.
  • Support training the team members on machining procedures and standard work for new and existing designs.
  • Support implementation of equipment and tooling upgrades to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively across departments and levels of the organization.
  • Support daily Gemba walks and execute servant leadership principles.
  • Identify and eliminate waste in machining processes and workflows.
  • Monitor and report the initial nonconforming condition and assist in root cause analysis.
  • Interface with external service providers as needed.
  • Operate and troubleshoot both CNC and manual machines as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certificate of completion of CAD, CAM software
  • 3+ years of experience programming and operating CNC mills (3-axis and 4-axis).
  • 3+ years CAD/CAM software.
  • Demonstrated ability to modify and create 2D prints and 3D models using CAD/CAM software.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading.
  • Experience with Mazak and Doosan vertical, horizontal, and turning machines
  • Skilled in using precision measurement tools and inspection techniques
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and tools (5S, Kanban, TPM)
  • Proficiency in using analytical tools (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables) in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional team
  • Must be able to work 7:30 - 3:30 M-F with occasional weekends and overtime

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in CamWORKS
  • Experience in work holding solutions
  • Knowledge in automation, including load/unload robots & pallet changers
  • Experience with DOE and statistical process control.
  • Knowledge of visual management systems and one-piece flow.
  • Background in continuous improvement methodologies.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to walk/stand for extended periods
  • Lift, push, pull up to 35lbs
  • Use of PPE as required by company safety standards
  • Decision is within the program/within their realm of responsibilities.

Additional Information

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary rate for this role is currently $30-$35 per hour.The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com.
