BAE Systems is seeking a highly motivated Component Engineer to join our Engineering Team, focused on DMSMS (Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages) support and Obsolescence Management for an exciting opportunity to support our commercially available Cloud-based application providing DMSMS services to customers around the globe. The ideal candidate will proactively monitor component lifecycles, identify risks within our Bills of Materials (BOMs), and develop mitigation strategies to ensure the continued availability of components for new design and legacy systems. You will work closely with design engineers, customers, and suppliers to manage parts quality, counterfeit avoidance, and component selection.
This role will be working directly with and providing leadership to an experienced obsolescence management team as we transition our legacy applications into state-of-the-art containerized microservices-based tools utilizing automation and artificial intelligence to meet and exceed our customers' expectations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Proactive Obsolescence Management: Conduct component surveillance using our Advanced Component Obsolescence Management (AVCOM) predictive tool, OEM surveys, GIDEP alerts, and other sources to forecast and mitigate DMSMS risks
- BOM Analysis & Scrubbing: Review and scrub Bills of Materials (BOMs) to identify obsolete, End-of-Life (EOL), or at-risk components
- Alternate Part Investigation: Generate comparison matrices showing the differences and similarities of parts.
- Mitigation Strategy Development: Develop business case analyses for recommended resolutions, including last-time buys, form-fit-function replacements, alternate sourcing, or redesign efforts
- Counterfeit Avoidance & Compliance: Ensure counterfeit avoidance practices and ensure components conform to industry standards (RoHS, REACH, MIL-STD)
- Part Qualification & Selection: Support design teams in selecting preferred components and qualify new/alternate parts to ensure performance standards
- Vendor Liaison: Act as the technical liaison between AVCOM Engineering, suppliers, and customers to resolve production part issues
- Documentation: Prepare technical reports, validate technical documents and requirements, review PCN/PDN data, and manage BOM updates
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or related technical field
- Minimum 4 years (2 years with Master's Degree) of progressive experience in component engineering, DMSMS, or obsolescence management within the aerospace/defense industry
- Proficiency with DMSMS management tools (e.g., AVCOM, GIDEP, WebFLIS, SiliconExpert, IHS/Accuris) and PLM software (e.g., Agile, Windchill)
- Experience with and ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, BOM structures, and military Technical Orders
- Proven ability to gather and analyze metrics from various sources related to obsolescence and component/logistics management
- Strong understanding of electronic components (ICs, passive devices) and military/industry standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with and present technical material to internal teams and customers
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Experience with DOD SD-22 DMSMS guidelines, AFMCI 20-105, and IEC-62402
- Experience in part screening, component verification, and web-scraping
- DoD/DAU DMSMS credential, Certified Supply Chain Professional, or similar certification
- Knowledge of scripting languages and methods to automate parts management processes
- Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
