Editor, Zoro Tools
In the past seven years, Zoro has grown from a group of 6 people working out of a 2,000 square foot building, offering fewer than 100,000 products, to a group of 250+ working out of a 60,000+ square foot building, offering more than 2,000,000 unique products.
Summary of Role:
The editor works directly with a variety of departments (Promotions, Branding/Marketing, Searchandising, Product, etc.) to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all internal and external communications. The editor has extensive experience in every medium Zoro utilizes (email, web, digital, direct mail, etc.) and serves as the subject matter expert for best practice industry information and standards. The editor is directly responsible for making sure all deliverables follow approved brand and style standards, as well as grammar and punctuation rules. In addition, the editor is responsible for creating and reviewing processes in an effort to continuously increase efficiency and accuracy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and edit copy within context of the web site, checking that it complements other promotional elements (like photos) to help customers make informed purchasing decisions.
- Establish clarity and consistency of copy style, including adherence to Zoro’s brand guidelines.
- Create editorial guidelines that are consistent with Zoro’s brand guidelines.
- Edit all internal and customer facing copy as requested.
- Must possess knowledge of customer needs, business environments and technical products.
- Able to take on an autonomous role to proofread and edit all the different types of collateral work (email, web, digital, direct mail, etc.) that flow through the content team to ensure 100% accuracy in terms of the rules of grammar.
- Expert understanding of how to execute against legal compliance including registrations, trademark usage, disclaimers, etc.
- Serve as resource for other areas of the business through education about the editing role.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5-7 years copy writing and editor experience required
- Thorough understanding of technical product information and feature-benefit copy principles.
- Thorough knowledge of standard rules of grammar. Consistent, extremely accurate and substantive editing skills.
- Strong understanding of ecommerce copywriting/editing best practices.
- Working knowledge of direct marketing.
- Working knowledge of keyword research and basic SEO principles.
- Must be able to ascertain customer and business requirements to ensure correct tone, approach, etc.
- Prior experience in providing feedback and direction to improve work products and assist others in developing their skills.
- Thorough understanding of department tools like Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Basecamp etc. and working knowledge of content management systems that house a variety of product content.
- Ability to work in deadline-driven environment and handle multiple priorities at the same time.
- Must work well as part of a team but must also be able to work independently.
