Please note: This is a contract role expected end date of December 2026. As a contractor, you will not participate in company or department offsites. Extension or conversion to full-time may be considered at the end of the contract based on business need and mutual interest

What the Role Is

Babylist is hiring a Senior Technical Recruiter on a 9-month contract to own hiring across Engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning, and AI. This is a fixed-term role, not a contract-to-perm pipeline. We're telling you that now so you can choose this for what it actually is. And what it actually is: real ownership at a company where 9 million families a year trust us to help them navigate one of the biggest transitions of their lives, and where the teams you'll hire for are building the product that makes that possible.

You'll partner directly with our Head of TA and have genuine influence over how a company scaling toward $1B hires its most critical technical talent. The req load is focused by design so you can go deep on hard problems rather than spread thin across volume. You'll shape sourcing strategy, push back on leveling, redesign interview loops that aren't working, and run debriefs where your perspective actually changes the outcome. We're AI-forward in how we actually work, not just what we hire for, and you'll join a TA team with low ego, high trust, and a genuine habit of teaching each other.

This is not a fit if you want a scoped execution role where someone else owns the strategy, or you're hoping this quietly converts. It won't. If you've mainly operated within established playbooks or prefer to avoid the uncomfortable conversation when a HM's expectations don't match the market, this will be a tough seat.

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of full-cycle technical recruiting experience with deep ownership of software engineering hiring and a track record closing senior or highly specialized roles
  • You've built or redesigned recruiting processes. Interview loops, calibration practices, sourcing strategies. You can point to what changed because of it.
  • You know the Canadian technical talent market. Comp benchmarks, talent distribution, and how to position against FAANG and well-funded startups competing for the same people.
  • Proven sourcing chops for hard-to-fill roles using multi-channel strategies that go beyond posting and waiting
  • You're a consultative partner to hiring managers. You bring data, market perspective, and honest pushback to intake, leveling, and debriefs.
  • You thrive where the playbook is still being written and find build-mode energizing rather than stressful
  • You're genuinely curious about AI in recruiting. How it's changing sourcing, evaluation, and how you work day to day, while staying grounded in human judgment.

How You Will Make An Impact

  • Own hiring outcomes across Engineering, Data, ML, and AI from intake through close. These teams are building the product that powers Babylist's growth.
  • Build sourcing strategies tailored to the Canadian market. Talent mapping, outbound campaigns, and referral generation for a pool that requires creativity to crack.
  • Lead structured intakes that define scope, leveling, and success criteria before a search starts pointed at the wrong target
  • Run debriefs that actually drive decisions. High-signal, well-facilitated, holding interviewers accountable to the rubric.
  • Spot what's broken in the process and fix it. Stages where candidates fall off, rubrics that aren't calibrated, question sets testing the wrong things.
  • Deliver a candidate experience that feels like Babylist. Responsive, transparent, warm, and honest about the hard parts.
  • Contribute beyond your own reqs. Interview training, tooling, employer branding. Small team, everyone builds.

 

About Compensation

We use a market-based approach to compensation. The starting salary range for this role is:

CAD $ 148,000 - $154.500

Your starting salary will be based on your location, experience, and qualifications, with increases over time tied to performance, role growth, and internal pay equity.
