While operating as our accounting expert, you'll also contribute to broader finance initiatives including FP&A, fundraising support, and strategic projects. This role requires both deep technical expertise and the ability to think strategically about how accounting enables business growth.

Responsibilities:

Day-to-Day Accounting Operations:

  • Manage accounts payable operations from invoice processing to payment runs and vendor management

  • Coordinate payroll accounting and benefits reconciliation in partnership with HR/payroll providers

  • Oversee equity administration processes, including stock option tracking, grant approvals, and coordination with external equity plan administrators

Strategic Accounting Leadership:

  • Serve as the company's accounting expert, advising on complex transactions, new product launches, and business model changes

  • Design and implement scalable accounting processes to support rapid growth with minimal headcount increase

  • Partner closely with FP&A on budget variance analysis, unit economics deep-dives, and board reporting materials

  • Own the accounting systems roadmap, including evaluation and implementation ofERP and spend management solutions

  • Independently research and apply complex accounting standards such as embedded derivatives and debt facilities

Cross-functional Partnership and Support:

  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Operations to ensure accurate accounting treatment of strategic initiatives

  • Support fundraising activities including due diligence, data room management, and investor reporting

  • Prepare documentation and training materials to enable future team growth and smooth transitions

Compliance and Controls:

  • Maintain audit readiness and support external auditors with documentation and schedules

  • Develop and enforce internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard the company’s assets and financial integrity

Qualifications:

  • 7-12 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a lead/manager role

  • Fintech/marketplace experience required - you understand complex revenue recognition, payment processing, and platform economics

  • Technical accounting expertise: Proven ability to research and implement complex GAAP guidance independently

  • Strategic thinking: Experience translating accounting insights into business recommendations

  • FP&A exposure: Comfortable building financial models, analyzing metrics, and presenting to executives/board

  • Startup resilience: Thrived in high-growth, resource-constrained environments where you had to build while flying

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets modeling capabilities

  • Experience with modern finance stack (Ramp, Stripe, Rippling, Quickbooks, etc.)

  • SQL knowledge a plus for data pulls and analysis

  • Familiarity with BI tools (Metabase, Tableau) for financial reporting

Leadership & Soft Skills:

  • Self-directed problem solver who can navigate ambiguity without constant guidance

  • Strong written and verbal communication - able to explain complex accounting to non-finance stakeholders

  • Project management skills to juggle multiple initiatives while maintaining close timeline

  • Intellectual curiosity about the business beyond just the numbers

  • Builder mentality - excited to establish foundations that will scale
