We are looking for an experienced and business-minded Corporate Counsel to join our fast-paced and fast-growing consumer lending company. In this role, you will provide strategic legal guidance across the business to help us scale responsibly and stay ahead of an evolving regulatory landscape. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, you will be a key advisor on legal risk, contracts, and regulatory and legal changes across the U.S. where we operate.

Responsibilities:
- Serve as a trusted legal advisor to senior leadership across a wide range of legal, regulatory, and operational issues.
- Monitor relevant laws, regulations, and industry developments in consumer lending, privacy, and data protection, and ensure company policies remain compliant.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, ensuring alignment with legal standards and business needs.
- Identify legal risks, conduct due diligence, and collaborate closely with the Compliance team and other internal teams on risk mitigation strategies across the business.
- Manage pre-litigation and litigation matters, including working with outside counsel as applicable and responding to customer legal complaints or escalations.
- Support regulatory reporting, filings, and communications with state and federal regulators.
- Advise on governance matters, support board activities, and ensure compliance with governance standards.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree and active membership with at least one U.S. state bar.
- Licensed to practice law in Illinois, or eligible for Illinois in-house counsel registration.4-8 years of legal experience in consumer lending or financial services.
- Strong knowledge of lending laws and consumer protection regulations.
- Proven experience in contract drafting and negotiation, with sound commercial judgment.
- Proactive, collaborative mindset and a genuine interest in understanding the business.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly. Able to work independently and collaboratively, think strategically about legal risks, and be proficient with legal research tools.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment is a plus.
- Able to work in a hybrid role based in Chicago, with in-office presence three days per week.
