Job Description

Duff & Phelps Investment Management – Credit Analyst (Investment Grade)
At Duff & Phelps Investment Management (D&P), collaboration is not a value statement; it is how the investment platform operates every day. As a boutique, investment led manager specializing in listed real assets and income oriented investment strategies, D&P is built on close partnership across the firm, with a shared focus on delivering thoughtful, disciplined solutions to sophisticated institutional and intermediary clients.

The Credit Analyst (Investment Grade) plays an essential role in the fixed income investment process. Based in Chicago, this position is designed for a credit focused investment professional who wants to be fully immersed in research and portfolio construction & analysis, working side by side with the Portfolio Solutions team to drive the investment grade corporate credit exposures embedded within D&P’s income oriented and real asset portfolios.

Designed for professionals with approximately 3–6 years of investment grade corporate credit experience, the Credit Analyst role offers meaningful exposure, increasing responsibility, and visibility within the investment organization. You will conduct in depth fundamental research on investment grade issuers, with a focus on balance sheet strength, cash flow durability, capital structure positioning, and downside risk within the context of portfolio income objectives. Accuracy, rigor, and intellectual discipline are table stakes; collaboration, sound judgment, and accountability are what distinguish success in the role.

A Culture Built on Teamwork and Proximity
The Credit Analyst operates within D&P’s highly collaborative, Chicago centric investment culture, where proximity to colleagues and active participation in discussions matter. Investment grade credit research at D&P is not a siloed function; it is an integrated component of portfolio construction, income generation, and risk oversight across strategies. Analysts are expected to engage directly with Portfolio Managers and Portfolio Solutions partners, contributing research that reflects how portfolios are actually managed and risk is evaluated.

You will collaborate closely with investment teams to produce investment grade issuer write ups, earnings reviews, and relative value assessments that support documented buy, hold, and sell decisions within income focused mandates. This partnership driven approach mirrors D&P’s broader operating model, where roles are defined less by hierarchy and more by shared responsibility for portfolio integrity and outcomes.

Partnership Across the Investment Organization
In addition to core research responsibilities, the Credit Analyst will support portfolio analytics, monitoring of investment grade credit allocations, and ongoing risk assessment across existing holdings and prospective investments. This role provides exposure to credit committees, annual reviews, and special projects, offering insights into how macro conditions, issuer specific developments, and market dynamics influence investment grade positioning within real asset and fixed income portfolios.

Working collaboratively with both fixed income and equity PMs, the Credit Analyst helps ensure that investment grade credit exposures remain aligned with portfolio objectives, income targets, and risk tolerances. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a disciplined, research driven environment.

Who Thrives at D&P
This role is well suited for an investment professional who values teamwork, intellectual curiosity, and proximity to the investment process. Successful Credit Analysts are those who take pride in rigorous investment grade credit research, enjoy collaborating with experienced investors, and want to build a long term career within a boutique investment platform where individual contributions are visible and meaningful.

Why D&P
Professionals join Duff & Phelps Investment Management because they want the depth and credibility of a true investment platform, combined with the collaboration and accessibility that comes with a boutique firm. Here, investment grade credit research supports income oriented and real asset portfolios, relationships are built on trust and substance, and success is driven by teams working together to deliver disciplined, long term investment outcomes.

Base salary range is $135,000 to $150,000/annually.
The starting salary offer will vary based on the applicant’s education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity, and alignment with market data. This position is also eligible to participate in the annual incentive plan.

This position requires U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency (Green Card holder) as a condition of employment. We are unable to sponsor work visas or provide support for OPT/CPT programs for this role.

Virtus and its affiliates is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
