What You'll Do

The Associate Principal, Financial Risk Oversight (FRO) provides critical support to the senior leadership of FRO by monitoring OCC’s adherence to its risk tolerances, developing risk reporting, and monitoring and challenging the effectiveness of OCC’s financial risk management framework. The role will involve close collaboration with the broader Corporate Risk Management team as well as other key OCC stakeholders.

  • Assist the FRO Team in implementing risk management oversight activities to assess, monitor, and report on the adequacy and effectiveness of OCC’s management of financial risk. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Support system, data, and risk oversight methodology development
  • Review data and risk methodologies during annual reviews
  • Identify underlying methodology assumptions with a comprehensive set of special cases
  • Evaluate different possible approaches/enhancements
  • Monitor enhancements to risk methodologies through full lifecycle events
  • Develop, conduct, and maintain advanced data analytics and reporting through data interpretation and analysis by integrating various reporting components and techniques from multiple data sources to identify and analyze causal links and meaningful relationships (e.g., correlations, distributions, percentiles) across large and/or multi-sourced data sets, and deliver compelling and easy to understand narratives of those insights to support executive decision making
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of statistical concepts in the development of data collection methods (e.g., data mining) and visualization techniques
  • Create, analyze, and monitor key performance, risk, and control indicators to support management and board-level reporting
  • Track and remediate identified audit and exam issues as well as business area self-identified issues and findings
  • Assist in the creation and modification of policies, procedures, and departmental trainings
  • Support management with special projects and other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to understand and manipulate data to provide insight observations, identify trends, and communicate these effectively
  • Understanding of securities/derivatives markets and risk management
  • Knowledge of regulatory rules and regulations related to the SEC/CFTC
  • Knowledge of the financial services industry, including the financial, market, liquidity and operational risks of broker-dealers, futures commission merchants, commercial banks, pension funds, and financial market utilities
  • Ability to think creatively and present ideas clearly
  • Excellent organization skills – must be detail oriented
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in designing and producing quality reports and presentations with a focus on attention to details
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with all levels of the organization and across a multitude of departments
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects and deadlines simultaneously, as well as the ability to adapt to shifting priorities
  • Experience supporting department efforts in internal audits or regulatory exams, including responses and remediation action plans

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Proficiency with data visualization software such as Tableau or Power BI
  • Experience with Alteryx or similar ETL tool
  • Experience with on-prem databases and APIs to access data
  • Experience with Python, R, SQL, and/or VBA

Education and/or Experience:

  • 3+ years of hands-on data analytics, science, and/or engineering experience required
  • 3+ years of financial services, risk management, compliance, and/or audit experience required
  • Bachelor and/or Masters degree in relevant quantitative/analytical field preferred
