What You’ll Do:

We are looking for a contract to potential hire, Database Engineer to support us on a technology project for one of our largest clients. You will be working as a member of our technology team to upgrade on-premise hosted instances of MySQL and MongoDB to recent versions and then migrate both to AWS instances (likely DocumentDB and RDS MySQL or perhaps Aurora). We are also looking to optimize these instances for better performance and reliability using industry best practices. 

Responsibilities:

• Add your voice to the Engineering team to ensure we are performing the right work at the right time
• Be bold in making technical decisions and understand the associated risks
• Act as the subject matter expert in all things database and act as the communication focal point on database matters with the client
• Perform hands-on upgrades of database and hands-on migrations from on-premise instances to AWS
• Perform appropriate testing and validation of upgrades and migrations
• Analyze the operation and performance of the databases and make recommendations for improvements (and execute on those recommendations)

Skills and Qualifications

• Experience migrating databases from on-premise to Cloud solutions (preferably AWS)
• Experience optimizing databases for performance and scalability
• Experience designing databases for reliability and performance 
• 5+ years of SQL Database Administration experience
• 3+ years of MongoDB Administration experience
• Demonstrated familiarity with industry best practices in Database Administration

Preferred Experience In:

• AWS options including DocumentDB and RDS for MySQL 
• Experience in the Transportation Industry 
• Amazon Web Services (AWS) experience
• Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) experience
• MySQL Programming Performance Optimization experience
