Sprout Social is looking for a Data Analyst to help our Business and Product teams analyze and understand the data and key metrics driving growth and adoption of our software products. Our software is used by more than 20,000 brands around the world. Companies like Dropbox, Zendesk, Fender, Zipcar and Evernote rely on Sprout to create stronger relationships with their customers through social media.

Your mission is to ensure stakeholders are data-informed and analytically rigorous, performing analysis into product usage and behavior, company performance, and owning the team’s reporting. This role will regularly partner with all departments across the organization, but especially Product, Design, and Data Science.

Our Data Science team uses Python and its data stack (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, matplotlib), as well as Amazon Redshift and Apache Spark to inform our product and organization, help our coworkers make more efficient and better decisions, and enhance our customers’ experiences. We’re looking for someone with strong SQL skills who can demonstrate that they are interested in -- or actively learning -- R and/or Python and have a desire to learn and deepen their understanding of these skills.

If you’re someone with strong data fluency, a drive to continuously improve their skill set and knowledge base, and are passionate about partnering with other parts of the business to improve decisions, we’d love to talk to you!

Within 1 month, you will:

  • Complete Sprout’s New Hire training program alongside other new Sprout team members.
  • Begin developing familiarity with our business, applications, and data, as well as our company’s key metrics.
  • Write SQL queries to fetch data from our Redshift database.
  • Analyze data using a tool like Google Sheets, Excel, R or Python to create reports and analyses for business and product stakeholders.
  • Document your work -- What question(s) was it trying to answer? What time range did it look at? What assumptions were made?

Within 3 months, you will:

  • Utilize a tool like Tableau, Looker, or Apache Superset to build and maintain dashboards for driving awareness and understanding of key business and product metrics.
  • Support a variety of teams with ad-hoc analyses that transform raw data into meaningful and impactful insights.
  • Dig into the questions being asked by our business partners, suggest appropriate metrics, and develop a plan to analyze the data.
  • Identify data issues and drive improvements in data hygiene.

Within 6 months, you will:

  • Develop and maintain an automated, standardized, and reliable metric workflows to empower stakeholders and decision makers with timely and accurate data and insights.
  • Partner with product teams to define goals and identify actionable metrics to understand the product performance and engrain those metrics into teams’ day-to-day work.
  • Work closely with Data Science and Engineering to author and develop core data sets to empower operational and exploratory analyses.
  • Present your analyses and insights to all levels of the company clearly and concisely.

Within 12 months, you will:

  • Use data to inform and influence the direction of the product team roadmaps and inform business decisions.
  • Have improved your technical skills, especially with SQL, Python, and R.
  • Have the ability to take ambiguous data questions, translate into a clear analytical plan, and produce concise summary output that includes recommendations based upon core findings.
  • Continually evaluate and refine your technical toolkit: teach what you learn to the team.

Of course what is outlined above is the ideal timeline, but things may shift based on business needs and other projects and tasks could be added at the discretion of your manager.

Note: We’d love for you to include to some work or an analysis you’re proud of with your application.
