Responsibilities Include:
- This position reports to the Director of Database Administration.
- Installation, maintenance, configuration, and tuning of the DB2 LUW system software and related DB2 administration tools in an IBM zVM zLinux environment.
- Problem investigation and resolution in production and non-production environments.
- Monitors and manages DB2 backup/restore/replication procedure.
- Monitor database size and performance in production and non-production environments.
- Assists with the physical design of DB2 database systems.
- Works with Systems Programming,Linux Engineers, MQ Engineers and Websphere Application Server staff on making recommendations for system level modifications related to DB2.
- Provides guidance and assistance to programming staff on the correct use and coding of database applications.
- Will also work with DB2 on Windows or Intel Linux environments.
- Assists in providing direction for future database use at HealthPlan Services.
- Provide on-call support and work overtime when necessary.
- Provide expertise related to DR planning and execution in HADR environments.
- Proper documentation of new processes developed and adherence to established standards and methodology.
Basic requirements:
- More than 7 years of experience in Database administration
- Solid understanding of Database technology
- Extensive Database performance tuning experience
- Deep knowledge of industry-standard, enterprise-class best practices for a large database environment
- Good understanding of Linux/VM platform
- Deep understanding of HADR Database and storage technologies like Data replication, TSM, etc
- Experience implementing, supporting and auditing database security
- Experience with Unix/Linux OS platform and Unix Shell scripting and automation
Preferred skills:
- Experience with installing, upgrading, configuring, integrating, tuning, and securing DB2 LUW instances in a zLinux environment
- Experience with database management tools, products, vendors, and methodologies
- Knowledge of database object design, stored procedures, UNIX scripting
- Knowledge of zLinux operating system, DB2 LUW transaction log management, TSM backup strategies, and security configuration using LDAP
- Knowledge of administering advanced DB2 database functions including High Availability (HADR) and Q-Replication
- Knowledge of DB2 Connect
- Base knowledge of TSA-MP
- Works efficiently under conditions of multiple deadlines and changing priorities to produce high quality material with meticulous attention to detail
- Strong customer service orientation in both internal and external interactions, and looks for opportunities to provide the highest quality service
- Builds methods for measuring effectiveness of processes to meet business objectives
- Manages appropriate metrics to measure process towards meeting quality standards for corporation
- Anticipates, recognizes and resolves issues
- Pro-active monitoring and problem resolution
- Evaluates and documents procedures
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Scripting experience
- Integrates complex data and synthesize results, evaluates the quality of the data, identifies critical process variables and provides recommendations based on results
