Quantitative Research Analyst
Responsibilities:
Aids in the development of quantitative investment methodologies with the goal of helping to operationalize them (20%). Assists in the full product development cycle, from R&D to implementation to the maintenance of prototype and (to a lesser extent) production code bases that deliver our investment advice (20%). Help generate original investment research with the goal of improving outcomes for our institutional clients and their direct investors (20%). Assist in the development of production applications that incorporates numerical techniques such as linear algebra, machine learning, statistics, and optimization (20%). Act as a subject-matter expert in portfolio statistics, portfolio construction, optimization, etc., as well as Morningstar's proprietary methodology and data points (15%). Faithfully represent the work of the quantitative research team to internal stakeholders and external clients (5%). ***Telecommuting is permissible.
Requirements:• This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or related quantitative discipline and 5 years of relevant quantitative analyst experience.• In alternative, we accept a Master's degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or related quantitative discipline and 2 years of relevant quantitative analyst experience or any suitable combination of education, training or experience.• Experience with statistical methods, optimization, and their sub-disciplines.• Experience writing SQL queries.• Experience with MATLAB and Python applications.• Experience with linear algebra matrix operations.• Experience with eigenvalues and eigenvectors.• Experience with gradient (vector of partial derivatives) for a cubic function calculations.• Experience with Jacobian (matrix of partial derivatives) of a quadratic function calculations.• Experience with ordinary-least-squares regression and interpretation of results and results of significance testing.• Experience with basic algorithms such as recursion.• Experience with writing a general non-financial optimization routine and providing QA.
