Senior Business Analyst, Advisor Client Experience
The Group: Morningstar's Advisor Client Experience (ACE) team is making financial planning a core experience for our advisor and end investor software globally. We deliver rigorous, yet user-friendly investor profiling and financial planning tools alongside Morningstar's leading investment planning and portfolio analytics to seamlessly connect every client's needs, goals, and risk profile to the best investment solutions for them.
The Role: As part of Morningstar's continued integration of our PlanPlus Global acquisition https://newsroom.morningstar.com/newsroom/news-archive/press-release-details/2020/Morningstar-to-Acquire-Software-Provider-PlanPlus-Global/default.aspx, we are looking for an inspired, detail-oriented Senior Business Analyst to help us develop advanced financial planning software for financial advisors in Canada, where we currently serve advisors and investors with such solutions, and worldwide as we strategically extend those capabilities to additional Morningstar platforms and markets. The Senior Business Analyst will work closely with their development squad under the guidance of the Senior Product Manager for advanced financial planning.
As a Senior Business Analyst, you act as a subject-matter expert on complex financial planning methodology, both internally and externally. You will collaborate with research, development, and QA teams to ensure successful product development and support.
We prefer for this position to be located in our Chicago or Toronto office but will consider candidates working remotely in the United States or Canada where Morningstar is registered to conduct business.
Responsibilities:
- Translate product or functional requests from internal and external clients into detailed written specifications and user stories.
- Integrate proprietary research into our advisor-facing software by working closely with thought leaders to bring intellectual property and new methodology to market.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of financial planning software methodologies, inputs and outputs (e.g. forecasting/projections, calculation reconciliation, etc.).
- Lead the documentation of complex methodologies.
- Support internal and external clients through product demonstrations, troubleshooting, methodological proofs, and timely communication.
- Step in and help with product testing, as needed. Everyone is responsible for quality!
- Assist with support and maintenance of solutions that have been deployed to live environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics, engineering, computer science or related field. Formal Financial Planning-related education/certification is required (e.g. CFP designation). Master's degree is preferred.
- Advanced understanding of advisor financial planning process, competitive software landscape, and end-client experience with planning.
- Understanding of both business and technical requirements, and the ability to serve as a conduit between product, research, and technology.
- Excellent written communication, planning, and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated experience in applying quantitative methods and data analysis.
- Must be willing to work under tight deadlines across multiple teams and locations with off-hours engagement.
