The Role:
The Direct Platform business unit is looking for a strategic and results-driven Director, Data Strategy to define Morningstar's data vision, ensuring we collect the right data assets aligned to client needs, emerging trends, and commercial opportunities. This leader will architect our data strategy, prioritize key data investments and use cases to maximize client impact and business value globally.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Define and own the global data strategy, identifying critical data sets to collect, enrich, and deliver based on client needs and market opportunities, responsible for region specific needs and plans.
  • Develop clear frameworks for assessing new data opportunities, including alignment to client use cases, regulatory trends, and commercial potential.
  • Partner closely with Data Collections, Product, Research, Technology, and Commercial teams to prioritize data investments and integrations across the platform.
  • Conduct in-depth market, client, and competitive research to surface unmet needs and emerging data trends globally and regionally.
  • Establish and oversee governance models for data sourcing, quality, and usage to ensure consistency and scalability across Morningstar solutions.
  • Create business cases for new data initiatives, including ROI analysis, build/buy/partner recommendations, and success metrics.
  • Act as the internal evangelist for our data strategy, aligning stakeholders around the vision and driving execution across the organization.

Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of experience in Product Management, Strategy, Data Strategy, or related roles within the financial services or data industry.
  • Deep understanding of the investment management ecosystem and the key data needs of asset managers, wealth managers, advisors, and other financial institutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate client problems and market shifts into actionable, high-impact data initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of Fund, Equity, and Fixed Income data types, as well as alternative data and other current and emerging data types and trends.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including engineering, research, sales, and marketing to drive complex data initiatives.
  • Strategic thinking and commercial acumen, with a proven track record of influencing senior leadership and driving data-driven business growth.

Base Salary Compensation Range
$115,815.00 - 208,463.00 USD Annual
Total Cash Compensation Range
$156,350.00 - 281,425.00 USD Annual
