As a venture-backed quantum hardware innovator experiencing rapid growth, we're building technology that will transform industries for decades to come. Quantum computers will be as transformative to the next 30 years as the internet was to the last 30 - and our team is creating the hardware foundation to make this revolution possible.

We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead execution across our engineering organization as we scale from R&D into production and delivery.

This is a hands-on leadership role in a relatively flat organization. You will report to the CTO and work directly with engineers across disciplines while building the structure, processes, and team needed to scale. You will also play a key role in developing talent and growing future leaders.

Responsibilities

Own Engineering Execution

  • Lead delivery of engineering programs from design through production and deployment
  • Drive accountability on timelines, milestones, and technical outcomes
  • Partner with Product to align roadmaps with engineering capacity and constraints

Lead and Develop the Team

  • Manage and develop engineering managers and individual contributors
  • Build a high-performing, accountable, and collaborative team
  • Hire and retain top talent

Drive Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Partner closely with R&D, Product, and Operations
  • Ensure effective transition from R&D into Engineering and into Manufacturing/Production
  • Collaborate with Qualification and Production to ensure design for manufacturability and reliability

Establish Scalable Processes

  • Implement and improve engineering processes (program management, design reviews, change control)
  • Increase predictability, quality, and speed of execution
  • Define and track key engineering metrics

Provide Technical Leadership

  • Guide system architecture decisions and engineering tradeoffs
  • Support resolution of complex technical challenges
  • Ensure rigor in development of advanced hardware systems

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of engineering experience, including 5+ years in leadership roles
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams in a hardware or deep tech environment
  • Proven track record delivering complex products from concept through production
  • Strong systems-level thinking and understanding of integration and manufacturing
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with cryogenic systems, quantum technologies, or similar advanced hardware
  • Background in New Product Introduction (NPI) and scaling to production
  • Experience working closely with R&D organizations
  • Start-up experience highly preferable

What We Offer

  • Competitive Compensation: Base salary range $170,000-$190,000, with additional compensation through performance bonuses and equity options in one of the country's most promising startups.
  • Growth Trajectory: Significant opportunities for professional development and career advancement in a rapidly scaling organization.
  • Impact: Direct influence on the success of a company developing revolutionary technology.
  • Exceptional Team: Collaboration with world-class scientists, engineers, and business leaders who are defining a new industry.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) matching, flexible PTO policy, and more.
