Hagerty Consulting, Inc. (Hagerty) is the nation's leading emergency management and homeland security consulting firm. Known for its public spirit, innovative thinking, problem-solving, and exceptional people, Hagerty is sought after to work on some of the largest and most complex crisis and emergency management issues. We serve our clients across the nation to enhance their preparedness programs; create more resilient and sustainable communities; provide innovative solutions to enhance their response; and obtain and manage grants and loans to support their recovery.

The Director of Accounting and Finance will report directly to the CEO and will serve as the company’s most senior finance leader and a trusted business partner to executive leadership. This individual will play a central role in strengthening financial infrastructure – designing processes, implementing best practices, and building the reporting needed to support informed decision-making and future growth. This role is ideal for a finance leader who thrives in a build-and-improve environment and is excited about creating structure, enhancing visibility, and supporting a growing professional services organization. This is a high-impact opportunity to build, scale, and shape the finance function, not just manage it.

Responsibilities for the Director of Accounting and Finance Include:

  • Team Leadership & Accounting Operations
    • Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing accounting and finance team
    • Oversee day-to-day operations across general ledger (GL), accounts payable/accounts receivable (AP/AR), payroll, and financial reporting
    • Design and implement a highly efficient, accrual-based close process
  • GAAP Compliance, Controls, & Audit Readiness
    • Build and formalize U.S. GAAP (ASC 606) revenue recognition policies across all projects and business lines
    • Establish and refine scalable internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure financial accuracy.
    • Transform the firm to an audit-ready state, managing documentation, controls, and schedules, and serve as the primary liaison for external auditors and consultants as needed
  • Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
    • Lead the annual budgeting process with department leaders and maintain ongoing financial projections and forecasts
    • Improve reporting timelines while enhancing the accuracy, transparency, and reliability of financial data
    • Provide variance analysis and actionable insights to drive operational decision-making
  • Executive Reporting & Business Insights
    • Create and deliver high-impact leadership reporting packages, including KPIs, dashboards, and performance analytics
    • Partner directly with the CEO and leadership team, translating financial data into strategic guidance and meaningful insights

Qualifications for the Director of Accounting and Finance Include:

  • At least four (4) years of experience in public accounting (Big Four or national firm preferred)
  • At least four (4) years of experience in a Controller or senior finance leadership role within a professional services firm
  • Demonstrated success building or significantly improving financial processes and managing teams in a growing, dynamic organization
  • Experience with or exposure to government contracting environments
  • Familiarity with revenue recognition in project-based, time and materials (T&M), or consulting models
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and a proven track record of successfully and collaboratively working with executives
  • CPA (active or inactive) strongly preferred

Compensation for the Director of Accounting and Finance Includes:

  • Salary range of $170,000 - $200,000 plus 15-20% discretionary bonus. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and training, licensure and certifications, internal equity, location, travel requirements, and other business and organizational needs.
  • Comprehensive benefits program, including health/dental/vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, flexible spending accounts (FSA) for health and transit/parking, short- and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid time off, holidays, sick leave, and more.

Hagerty Consulting is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We welcome applications from a wide range of candidates, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, ethnicity/national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, religion, age, disability, marital status, military status, genetic information, or any other status, characteristic or condition protected by local, state, or federal law.
