We are trailblazers. Problem solvers. People who thrive in fast paced environments, communicate clearly, and bring relentless focus to efficiency and execution.

About the role

The Director of Controls will build and manage the controls process from the ground up: the standards, processes and tools we use to manage cost, schedule, change management and risk on every project.

This is both a builder and manager role. You'll create a controls system that is set up once and repeated on every new site. Then you will manage and support the onsite control managers who will execute and utilize that system.

What you'll do

  • Build our construction controls framework, organized around a standard work breakdown structure (WBS) and cost coding.
  • Design and lead the change management process end to end: how changes are submitted, reviewed and approved, and how they flow into budgets and forecasts.
  • Create a risk management process that identifies and tracks project risks and ties contingency to them.
  • Work with Procurement to set up PO and commitment tracking so committed, invoiced and remaining costs are visible on every project.
  • Lead budgeting, cost forecasting and monthly reporting, including an executive dashboard leadership can rely on.
  • Set scheduling standards and keep the critical path and long-lead equipment in front of leadership.
  • Select and implement controls tools, connected to our finance and project management systems.
  • Build and lead the controls team and set the standard for third-party schedulers and cost managers.

What you'll bring

  • 10+ years in project controls on large capital construction projects, including 5+ years in a leadership role
  • A track record of building a controls function or system, not only running an existing one
  • Owner-side or owner's-rep experience on data center, mission-critical, power, or heavy industrial projects
  • Strong command of WBS and cost coding, scheduling, change management, risk management, and forecasting
  • Primavera P6 experience
  • The ability to turn project controls data into clear recommendations for executives and finance
  • A bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, finance, or a related field

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: $165,000 - $190,000 (commensurate with experience) + bonus + sign-on equity grant.
  • Long-Term Growth: Eligible to participate in Riot’s equity incentive programs and share in the success you help build.
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan: Incudes a generous company match.
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Multiple medical plan options, including 100% company-paid plans.
  • Wellness & Lifestyle Perks: Enjoy free gym memberships, pet insurance, childcare discounts, and more to support your life both in and out of work.
