Role Overview:
The Divisional CIO is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for overseeing the information technology strategy, execution, and operations within a specific division of the organization. This role requires a strategic visionary with a deep understanding of technology trends, business acumen, and the ability to align IT initiatives with divisional business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy Leadership: Deliver tangible business value through technology solutions that are aligned to CI-IT business / Caterpillar IT strategy & objectives
  • Strategy Development:
    • Drive technology strategy definition for Earthmoving Division (EMD)
    • Define divisional roadmap for EMD, applying Caterpillar Strategic Growth Pillars in alignment with modern manufacturing objectives and commercial solutions focus
  • Relationship Management:
    • Engage EMD leadership, providing trusted technology solution partner perspectives and active alignment with Caterpillar strategic technology program direction
    • Build CI-IT credibility and trust with Construction Industries business stakeholders through active CI leader engagement and consistent delivery
  • Technology & Innovation Leadership:
    • Serve as business-focused innovation leader providing technology trend spotting / vetting with a perspective on business fit / value delivery
    • Engage EMD Business Leaders as well as manufacturing leaders / partners in identifying, vetting, selecting and applying business-enabling solutions

Solution Delivery: Drive cohesive technology solutions, informed architectures, expert portfolio prioritization and active program management to achieve business objectives
  • Enterprise / Solution Architecture:
    • Own EMD Technology Roadmap, driving data, insights, and technology solution delivery, leading programs from definition through delivery and support
    • Identify Optimization / Innovation / Replication opportunities leveraging Caterpillar IT strategic solutions while driving Technology Debt Reduction for EMD
  • Portfolio Prioritization:
    • Provide divisional recommendations and oversight for strategic platform and engagement opportunities (including applications / data delivery)
    • Align on investments / technology portfolio priorities as part of a mature portfolio prioritization program and in support of Portfolio Leader approach
  • Program Management & Delivery:
    • As Divisional CIO, oversee divisional program / project delivery and value creation as a part of / contributor to CI-IT-wide delivery
    • Manage and track program / project delivery as well as product & service development, enhancements and testing / quality for assigned division

CI-IT Talent Leadership & Communications: Provide cross-functional / cross-organizational IT leadership to actively manage and proactively solve business challenges
  • Talent Management:
    • Manage talent development, recognition and opportunities for IT teams
    • Manage partner vetting, selection, contracting and engagement for EMD
  • Caterpillar IT Engagement:
    • Maintain regular Caterpillar IT leader engagement, serving as business-facing IT contact and providing business perspective for assigned division
    • Manage successes and follow-through on requests, complaints, feedback
  • Communications Management:
    • Bring a balanced perspective to IT communications, managing voice, perception and urgency
    • Present / engage professionally (tone, voice, messaging), exhibiting customer-back, value-focused mindset, driving positive outcomes and long-term partnership

CI-IT Operations Leadership: Protect the brand and operational stability / health through active facility / site-level IT leadership, cyber security vigilance and compliance
  • Facility / Site IT Operations:
    • Lead EMD facility IT team members and partners in delivery of IT objectives as well as IT Service Mgmt., Application Mgmt., Infrastructure / Technology Mgmt.
    • Lead divisional support matrix (PCs, network, etc.), managing operations technology stability, risk mitigation and SLA / OLA adherence
  • Cybersecurity, Safety & Compliance:
    • Partner with Security team on to lead cybersecurity, safety and compliance communications for EMD facilities
    • Actively / repeatedly engage business stakeholders, providing coaching / recommendations regarding the important role that they play in security
  • IT Budget / Finance Management: Define / deliver annual business plan and budget balancing CI business objectives and Caterpillar IT imperatives, with:
    • Budget / Forecast / Investment planning / business case development
    • Asset management / Technology consumption cost management
    • IT value / performance reporting

Additional Details:
  • This role will be located in Peoria, IL.
  • Relocation will be offered to those who qualify.
  • No Sponsorship is available for this role.
  • This role requires 5 days onsite.
  • 25% travel is required.
  • This position is eligible for stock or other equity grants pursuant to Caterpillar's long-term incentive plan.

Reporting Structure:
The Divisional CIO reports directly to the Group CIO and works closely with other divisional leaders to ensure that IT initiatives align with both divisional and corporate objectives.
Summary Pay Range:
$189,080.00 - $283,630.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
