Dynamics 365 Business Central Developer

Location: Chicago, IL (hybrid)

Salary: $125,000 + benefits

Reports to: IT Manager

Steelhead Corporation operates two manufacturing businesses, Metropolitan Air Technology and Encore Rail Systems, on a shared Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central tenant. Today, nearly all of our Business Central development is purchased from three outside consulting firms. We are bringing that work in-house, and this is the first developer role in the company. You would own Business Central development end to end: extensions, integrations, environment administration, and the reporting and applications built on top of it. The near-term work is already funded: an MRP integration, a Business Central entity separation, a Snowflake data warehouse, and a customer pricing portal, all inside the next twelve months.

What You Will Be Doing

•     Design, develop, test, and deploy AL extensions and integrations for Dynamics 365 Business Central across two operating companies, using the event and subscriber model rather than modifying base objects

•     Serve as the primary technical resource on a new COSS MRP integration: data mapping, interface development, testing, go-live, and stabilization

•     Execute a Business Central entity separation, splitting the two companies into distinct environments and retiring the third-party multi-entity licensing we depend on today

•     Administer Business Central environments: sandboxes, cumulative updates, extension deployment, permission sets, data upgrade, and release readiness

•     Build and maintain reports, Power BI content, and the pipelines feeding a new Snowflake data warehouse; take ownership of a customer-facing pricing portal after handoff from the agency that built it

•     Collaborate with finance, operations, sales, and the shop floor; troubleshoot Level 1/2 ERP issues, document what you build, and occasionally back up Level 1 support during absences or peak periods

What You Need for This Position

•     Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

•     Three or more years of hands-on development experience with Dynamics 365 Business Central, Dynamics NAV, or both, writing AL and/or C/AL

•     Working knowledge of AL objects (tables, table extensions, pages, page extensions, codeunits, and reports) and the event-driven extension model

•     Demonstrated experience integrating Business Central with external systems using APIs, OData, REST or SOAP web services, and JSON

•     Proficiency in MS SQL; experience with source control and application lifecycle management using Git and Azure DevOps or equivalent

•     Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a small team without close supervision

•     A service mindset. Internal users are your customers. Responsive, patient, able to explain the technical in plain terms, and consistent about following up to confirm a fix actually worked

Preferred Qualifications

•     MB-820 Business Central Developer Associate certification; MB-800 Functional Consultant Associate a plus

•     Multi-company or multi-entity Business Central experience, particularly company separations

•     Manufacturing or distribution domain knowledge: production orders, bills of material, routings, inventory, and MRP

•     Web development (.NET / C#, JavaScript, or Power Pages), Power Platform, Power BI, Snowflake, or RDLC report development

•     Comfort using AI tools such as Claude Code, ChatGPT or GitHub Copilot in daily development work

•     Experience on the partner or consulting side of the Dynamics ecosystem

Why This Role

•     Real ownership of your work inside a fast-growing company. You are the first developer here, which means you set the architecture, the standards, and the direction, not inherit someone else's

•     A high level of design control. You decide how things get built, and you are close enough to the business to know why it matters

•     An AI-first approach to the work. We expect you to use Claude, Copilot, and whatever comes next to prototype, document, and ship faster, not to work the way development worked five years ago

•     A funded roadmap that is starting now with a drive to expand and grow
