Flatiron Books, an imprint of Macmillan Publishing Group, is looking for an Editorial Assistant who will support two nonfiction editors. Our ideal candidate is a highly organized self-starter who enjoys working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and has a passion for both narrative and practical nonfiction. 

What You'll Do:

  • Assist with manuscript management, including formatting manuscripts for copyediting, creating art logs, tracking production deadlines
  • Communicate updates about projects, answer questions, and follow-up with requests from authors, agents, team members from different departments, and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Review and provide thoughtful feedback on submissions
  • Conduct research for comparative titles, creating P&Ls, and preparing materials for title acquisition
  • Draft title information sheets, catalog copy, and jacket copy
  • Complete general administrative tasks, such as setting up meetings, drafting contract requests, and maintaining the flow of materials between editorial and other departments

What You'll Bring:

  • The ability to work independently, juggle different deadlines across multiple projects, and prioritize effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Superb organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail
  • A strong interest in for nonfiction books and curiosity about a wide range of subjects, from history, pop culture, and social science to self-help, psychology, health, cooking, and lifestyle
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Google Workspace
  • Some work experience in book publishing is a plus
  • Some experience in a corporate/office environment
  • Alternative (non-publishing industry-based) office experience is welcome
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED

The salary for this role is $50,000.

This position is classified as remote but is tied to our New York, NY office located at 120 Broadway. Employment is subject to New York State tax withholding under applicable regulations.
