Zachry Group is currently looking talented and self-motivated Electrical Engineer III with design experience to join our Electrical Department in Hammond, IN. This is a great opportunity to get involved in interesting and challenging design projects for clients in various industries predominantly in the process industries.

Responsibilities

Involved in application of general design practices. Will select and recommend procedures in design and lead a team to implement those design for installation. Performs non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of various scopes. Lead shall have the ability to select and adapt plans, techniques, designs, and coordinates the work with the project team. Reviews, analyzes, and integrates the technical requirements and design approaches. Review work for technical adequacy and satisfaction of requirements. The position’s skills are heavily focused on electrical design and execution while having working technical knowledge of other discipline design requirements. Position requires the ability of leading and coordinating work efforts within their discipline project team to successfully complete project assignments. Provide field support including field verifications for retrofit applications, as-built documentation, on-site procurement and installation supervision.Independently applies extensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. 

  • Work on a major project or several projects of moderate scope with complex designs.
  • Plan and schedule assigned activities.  
  • Assist Project Lead to develop budget requirements (i.e., time and materials) for proposed projects. 
  • Monitor and manage their performance and budget compliance. 
  • Assist Project Lead to lead a team of engineers and designers in order to complete assignments on projects. 
  • Coordinate design and engineering activities with other engineering disciplines. 
  • Reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance while assuring adherence to applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Conceptually identify interface requirements for existing facilities. 
  • Participate in constructability reviews for assigned project. 
  • Develops new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products. 
  • Provide support to field construction and commissioning activities. 
  • Assist Project Lead to monitor and report on project engineering discipline status to Project Manager/Leadership Team. 
  • Participate in client meetings.
  • Design guidance for raceway systems including underground ductbanks, cable tray and above ground conduit.
  • Design guidance for lighting systems including interior, exterior and roadway lighting.
  • Design guidance for grounding systems.
  • Develop schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Develop one-line and three-line diagrams. 
  • Coordination with engineering and other crafts to assure a complete, coordinated design.
Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from a 4 year ABET accredited college.
  • Minimum of 6+ years of electrical engineering design experience on Power and/or Industrial Projects.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code, IEEE/ANSI Standards and NEMA Standards.
  • Experience with Medium and Low Voltage Equipment and Cables.
  • Must be able to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interface with Senior Company Leadership.
  • Must be organized, self-directed, able to prioritize and multi-task, work in a team environment and take direction from others.
  • Willingness to travel and work in office and field environments as necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.

Preferred Requirements

  • Professional Engineering License with the ability to obtain licensure in other states within the US.
  • Lead Electrical Engineer on Engineer, Procure and Construct Projects.
  • 6+  years of electrical engineering design experience.
  • Experience with OTI ETAP software for Electrical System Analysis and Relay Coordination. 
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code preferred.
  • Experience with Switchyards, Large Power Transformers, Generator Circuit Breakers, Switchgears/MCCs and other large power equipment.

Physical Demands

Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry and move objects safely.

Work Environment

Work will be in a general office environment operating and functioning in a fast-paced work environment.  Occasionally required to work in an industrial location where noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.

In accordance with Illinois Equal Pay Act, the expected salary range for this Illinois position, Electrical Engineer III is between $106,500 and $149,960 annually.   Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. 

This position Electrical Engineer III is eligible for participation in Zachry’s Total Employee Rewards Program, which includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, and other ancillary benefits. This position is also eligible for participation in the 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan.
