Zachry Group is seeking Process Engineer IV candidates for our Downers Grove Engineering Design Center.  The Process Engineer IV will be responsible for routine process engineering and design tasks for assigned projects based on specific and detailed instructions received from the assigned supervisor.

Responsibilities

•    Responsible for developing process flow diagrams (PFD) and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
•    Responsible for development of heat and material balance information using various commercial software.
•    Assist with sizing and rating various equipment like pumps, horizontal and vertical vessels, heat exchangers, and air coolers.
•    Responsible for performing hydraulic analysis and calculations for piping systems.
•    Assist with design of relief system, flare header design, relief valve sizing and performing contingency analysis and flare header analysis.
•    Participate in various client Process Hazard Analysis reviews (i.e. risk review, HAZID, HAZOP/LOPA).
•    Independently evaluates, ‎selects, ‎and applies standard engineering techniques, ‎procedures and criteria, ‎using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
•    Present technical information to peers or other personnel for review.
•    Analyze problems and take appropriate design actions to ensure project meets client expectations.
•    Evaluate equipment and processes to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
•    Estimate work hour effort requirements and be able to track and forecast budgets.
•    May supervise, coordinate, and review work of a small staff of engineers.
•    Other duties as assigned
 

Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering
•    8+ years of experience working as a Process Engineer within the Energy & Chemical Industries
•    Experience in performing hydraulic analysis, heat and material balance calculations and relief system analysis
•    Experience in sizing and rating pumps, vessels and exchangers
•    Experience in PFD and P&ID development
•    Experience in developing instrument lists and line lists
•    Good Communication Skills (Active Listening, Verbal, and Written)
•    Complex Problem Solving (STEM)
•    Attention to Detail
•    Judgment and Decision Making
•    Experience with Process Engineering Computer Software
•    Strong desire to learn
•    Proven Leadership skills
•    Ability to independently organize and prioritize work assignments and coordinate a variety of tasks, with ability to deal with conflicting priorities and deadlines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•    Licensed Professional Engineer
•    Experience as a Process Engineer in the refining, gas processing, chemical plant, food/beverage, corn wet milling, oilseed processing, decarbonization and/or energy transition industries.
•    Experience participating in HAZOP/LOPA studies
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry and move objects safely.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Will work in a general office environment. Capable of operating and functioning in a fast-paced work environment. Must possess a vision (corrected or uncorrected) that allows for clear visibility from a distance of 20 inches or less.

In accordance with Illinois Equal Pay Act, the expected salary range for this Illinois position, Process Engineer III is between $119,600 and $163,512 annually.   Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. 

This position Process Engineer IV is eligible for participation in Zachry’s Total Employee Rewards Program, which includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, and other ancillary benefits. This position is also eligible for participation in the 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan.
