DevOps Platform Engineer at Kin + Carta (Chicago, IL)
Kin + Carta is looking for a DevOps Platform Engineer with a combination of system engineering, infrastructure, and development background to join our Cloud Modernization & Event Streaming Capability.
This is a new position at Kin + Carta on a growing team, and you’ll be adding your experiences and perspective to building out this in-demand client offering.
Responsibilities:
- Building code delivery pipelines that bake in quality and security and automate everything that can be done around software delivery.
- Bring SRE practices to project teams. Add robust monitoring, alerting and logging, and automating triage activities as much as possible.
- Measure and track performance for the project team. Help project teams build applications that are reliable and meet performance metrics.
- Automate the deployment of infrastructure. Bring a software engineering-mindset to infrastructure creation and management, while applying the best operational views to ensure security, scalability and compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong core programming background, and understanding on how to create modular, reusable, tested code
- Experience a scripting language, including but not limited to: Python, Golang, Bash, and/or Powershell
- 3+ years experience in more than one of the following: data center architecture, software development, operational services, client-facing interactions, automation or cloud platforms
- Experience automating IT Operations processes with various tools and a curiosity and interest in learning new technologies
- Experience in a cloud or cloud-like environment including, but not limited to Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, Red Hat Openshift, VMware Tanzu
- Experience in creating infrastructure as code
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with hardware/software load balancers including F5, BigIP, AWS, HA Proxy, Nginx, Apache, ELB, or Google Cloud Load Balancing
- Experience automating pipelines by using continuous delivery tools including Jenkins, Concourse, vRealize Automation, Team City, Bamboo or UrbanCode
- Experience with configuration/cluster management technologies including Chef, Puppet, Kubernetes, Docker, Heroku buildpacks, BOSH or Ansible
- System Administrator experience
- Solid understanding of systems monitoring, alerting, and analytics
- Experience working with NTP, SAML, OAUTH2, or Active Directory
- Experience in creating infrastructure as code (ie Terraform, Jenkins DSL with Groovy)
- Proactive inclination to break down complex problems into steps that drive customer value
- Must be effective in working both independently and in a team setting
- Certifications in Google (Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer) or Microsoft (DevOps Engineer Expert)
- Comfortable working in a collaborative environment with individuals locally and distributed globally
- A solid understanding of cloud infrastructure architecture and system engineering
- System Administrator experience useful (Linux/Windows)
- A solid understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle and integration into cloud SAAS and hybrid systems
- Solid understanding of cloud-native and third party monitoring, alerting, and analytics
- Experience working with NTP, SAML, OAUTH2, Redis, or Active Directory
- Simultaneously a self-starter and able to work unsupervised in a team setting
- A passion and curiosity for applying proven skills, developing new knowledge/skills, and applying them to real-world clients/projects
