Responsible for the technical design, deployment, monitoring and ongoing support and maintenance of a diverse set of cloud technologies. The role is a technical, hands-on opportunity with a heavy focus on automation, resilient design and deployment of cloud ready systems and services. This role collaborates with Product teams internal and external to IS to provide world class products and services in support of our application development community, and our business as whole. This is a ‘DevOps’ position, responsible for the full-stack engineering and support of products that support our hybrid cloud capabilities.
This role can be based out of our Downtown Chicago or Riverwoods Office.
The Business Technology Infrastructure Services Team is looking for a Senior Automation Engineer. This role is responsible for working with key stakeholders to help adopt an automation-first mindset to deploying and managing Discover’s infrastructure platforms, and delivering those capabilities through modern automation tools and patterns. An automation-first approach and mindset are essential to deliver the desired Infrastructure-as-Code and Compliance-as-code outcomes. A systems-focused critical thinking mindset, independent drive and effective communication amongst multiple technical teams will be critical to success. This is a ‘DevOps’ position, responsible for the full-stack engineering and support of products that support our hybrid cloud capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Leads the design, build, and maintenance of modern Cloud platforms that support Agile teams.
- Partners with key stakeholders as a platform champion for Cloud-native systems, and coaches on how to use platform capabilities effectively through appropriate venues.
- Drives continual improvement of the IaaS product and capabilities through internal user groups and external market research.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to peers and less experienced engineers
- Implement Configuration Management, Infrastructure- and Compliance-as-Code using modern tools (e.g. Chef, CloudFormation, Terraform, Puppet, Ansible, Python)
Minimum Qualifications
At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, or related field
- 4+ years of experience in application or platform development, consulting, or related field
- In lieu of degree, 6+ years of experience in application or platform development, consulting, or related field
Preferred Qualifications
If we had our say, we’d also look for:
- Experience developing Chef or Ansible, along with Terraform integrating into AWS, GCP and using the vSphere provider, with a demonstrated history of delivering and managing software or systems
- Experience developing and managing of some provisioning orchestrator, eg. vRA, OpenStack
- Experience working within at least one Agile framework
- Experience with IDEs, code versioning repos (eg. git) and delivery pipelines (eg. Jenkins)
- Compliance as Code and infrastructure testing using INSPEC or like framework
- JavaScript coding experience a +
- AWS, Azure, or Google public cloud experience in a production environment is a plus
- Demonstrated contributions to some OSS project
- Comfortable working on agile-based teams comprised of team members with diverse skill-sets (e.g. Quality Assurance Engineers, User Experience Designers, Software Engineers / Architects) Experience developing and integrating against APIs #LI-BG1
