About Us: Carefeed is the platform senior living and long-term care providers use to bring order, clarity, and calm to their day. By replacing paper, calls, and disconnected tools with an all-in-one platform, Carefeed digitizes and automates the work that takes teams away from residents and families.

Carefeed works alongside existing EHR and HR systems and supports the way providers already operate. It reduces strain, keeps communities organized, and gives staff the time and confidence to focus on what matters most. Providers choose Carefeed because it is simple to learn, powerful in practice, and built for the realities of multi-community care.

Trusted by thousands of communities across the US and Canada, Carefeed helps every organization deliver a better experience for residents, families, and the teams who care for them.

About the Role:

Carefeed is seeking a standout Engineering Manager to lead our Core Engineering team, which is responsible for our flagship products—Communications, Admissions, and Surveys—serving senior living communities. In this role, you’ll lead a high-performing team of engineers, deliver impactful features our customers love, and foster a fast-paced, high-quality engineering culture. This is Carefeed’s first Engineering Manager role and as such is ideal for a candidate with prior people management experience who is looking to set an incredible standard for future leaders at Carefeed. The right candidate will have a major impact on our team culture and engineering practices as we grow.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, providing regular feedback, career guidance, and development support. The Engineering Manager typically oversees up to two squads—each with ~6 engineers, a Product Manager, and a Designer.
  • Provide technical leadership by offering architectural guidance, making key design decisions when needed, and helping engineers grow in their own technical leadership.
  • Support team growth by participating in hiring, onboarding, guiding the development of the engineering culture, and developing processes as we grow.
  • Contribute hands-on code as needed—Carefeed is a fast-moving startup, and we value leaders who can roll up their sleeves. Engineering Managers are expected to be technically strong and able to contribute at a Senior Engineer level or beyond.
  • Lead a team responsible for managing a critical production service, including operational concerns (monitoring, alerting, on call, etc).
  • Drive planning and execution, balancing near-term priorities with long-term strategic goals, and helping your teams stay focused and aligned.

Qualifications:

  • You have demonstrated success leading engineering teams, including hiring, performance management, and mentoring engineers through different stages of their careers.
  • You bring 6+ years of experience in web application development. Additional experience in infrastructure and developer tooling is a plus.
  • You’re passionate about modern software development practices, such as continuous deployment and software testing.
  • You’re thoughtful and clear in your feedback and communication.
  • You’re a self-starter who thrives in fast-paced environments and can balance autonomy with accountability.
  • You’ve worked with distributed teams before and are comfortable collaborating across time zones. This role is based in Chicago, but you’ll partner closely with colleagues across the U.S., including our Cincinnati HQ.

Work Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt

What You’ll Love:

  • Join a fast-growing startup making a real impact in the lives of senior care providers and their communities
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance to support your health and well-being
  • 401(k) plan to help you plan for the future
  • Paid vacation, sick time, and company-paid holidays to support work-life balance
  • A culture that values growth and development, with opportunities to grow your career as we scale
