As an Engineering Manager, you'll lead and develop an engineering team, ensuring technical quality, fostering growth, and guiding product initiatives, while utilizing AI effectively.
The summary above was generated by AI

Tremendous is the global platform built for businesses to send thousands of payouts to anyone, anywhere, for free. We're trusted by 20,000 organizations like Atlassian, MIT, and United Way to deliver gift cards and money to millions of recipients worldwide.

Our customers (researchers, marketers, HR teams, nonprofits, and platform businesses) rave about how fast and easy Tremendous is to use. Check out our ratings on G2.

Tremendous is profitable and growing without outside investors. We’re a fully remote, high-documentation, low-meeting culture, which means more time for what matters in both your professional and personal life. The team agrees– our employee NPS is in the high 80s.

What you’ll do

  • Lead one of our engineering teams (we currently have six).

    • We're hiring for multiple teams—Banking and Prepaid Cards—and will match you to the team where your strengths will have the most impact.

  • Grow your engineers' careers through 1:1s, thoughtful feedback, and coaching.

  • Own technical quality — through code reviews, architecture decisions, and setting standards your team is proud of.

  • Report to our Director of Engineering, Chloe

How we manage at Tremendous:

  • We coach developmentally, not reactively. Growing our engineers is a multi-month effort, not a response to the last incident. We address patterns, not one-offs.

  • Fix what's broken. You and your PM decide how your team works. If the process isn't serving you, change it — you don't need permission.

  • Async-first, low-meeting culture. We default to writing things down. You will not be stuck in back-to-back meetings.

  • Stable ground to build on. Our infrastructure is reliable, we rarely have incidents, and our tech debt is under control. You'll be leading a team that ships — not one stuck firefighting.

What you’ll bring

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, including at least 2 years leading a team as a manager or tech lead.

  • Great technical judgment. You are consistently right on technical approaches, and can explain why.

  • Strong communication skills. You can write technical briefs and explain technical concepts to cross functional stakeholders.

  • Solid product intuition. You generally have a good sense of what to build and can articulate product initiatives to engineers on the team.

  • Lead on AI adoption. You use AI heavily in your own work and help your team do the same — without lowering the bar on quality. "I used AI" is never an excuse for slop, and you'll hold your team to that.

  • A magnet for talent. Other engineers and teammates love working with you.

  • High empathy. You care about your teammates and our users. You can put yourself in their shoes.

  • Our stack: Ruby on Rails; Typescript + React; PostgreSQL; Google Cloud. Tech stack knowledge is a plus, but not required.

What’s cool about the role

  • We invest in your tools. Everyone has a $5k/month budget for AI tools. Use it.

  • Competitive pay and equity. The base salary for this role is $250,000 to $300,000.

  • Fully remote. Work from anywhere in the Americas.

  • Great culture. Read more about how we work in our public handbook.
