RFA Engineering (www.rfamec.com) is an engineering service provider dedicated to delivering our clients with timely engineering support and expertise.  We are seeking an entry level to experienced candidate to become an integral part of our engineering team.  The selected candidate will work with an experienced engineering staff using state-of-the-art engineering tools & processes. This position will operate onsite at our customer's world-class engineering and manufacturing facility.

Entry Level Electrical Engineer - Control Systems

This position supports the validation and testing of advanced machine control systems for off-highway equipment. The engineer will plan and execute data collection activities, troubleshoot controls and communication systems, support machine testing, and analyze performance data to help verify machine functionality and improve system performance.
 

Responsibilities

  • Support validation and verification activities for machine control systems.
  • Plan and execute machine testing and data collection activities.
  • Prepare equipment and machines for testing, including software flashing and system setup.
  • Collect, transfer, and organize machine performance data for engineering analysis.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, and controls-related issues on machine platforms.
  • Assist in the development, calibration, and validation of machine control systems.
  • Analyze test results and provide recommendations for system improvements.
  • Work with engineering teams to ensure test objectives, schedules, and deliverables are achieved.
  • Investigate hardware, software, network, and communications issues impacting machine performance.
  • Support implementation of safety requirements and engineering best practices.
  • Document testing activities, findings, and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with controls, systems, software, and validation engineers on development projects.
  • Provide regular progress updates to project stakeholders and engineering leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Understanding of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Familiarity with machine controls, sensors, actuators, and data acquisition systems.
  • Basic troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments around construction and off-highway equipment.

Desired Attributes

  • Exposure to CAN communication networks and diagnostic tools.
  • Linux experience or familiarity with Linux-based systems.
  • Understanding of Ethernet-based communications.
  • Experience with machine testing, validation, or data collection activities.
  • Knowledge of embedded control systems.

Pay Range: $65,000-$85,000 – Commensurate with experience

Our work includes concept development, product design, documentation, problem-solving, simulation, optimization, and testing of components, systems and complete machines. Our engineering staff is located at our Engineering Center in Minneapolis, branch office in Dubuque, IA, and at numerous customer sites throughout the U.S.
