The Epic Cloud Engineer is responsible for the support and administration of an Azure Cloud environment hosting a large Epic deployment. This individual will be a subject matter expert who enhances Quest’s Cloud service model and enables automation for scoped cloud services, specifically to support the stability, security and reliability of the Epic infrastructure.

The primary focus for this role is to implement and support cloud infrastructure through a standardized CI/CD pipeline and automate the configuration of compute, storage, network, monitoring, logging and other related critical infrastructure services.

The Epic Cloud Engineer will closely work with other team members and consulting partners to meet Quest’s cloud operational needs.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for maintaining the security, up-time and availability of cloud systems and services.

  • Use a standardized CI/CD pipeline for cloud infrastructure builds.

  • Use configuration management tools such as Ansible to configure applications in the Cloud.

  • Create operational plans to maintain and manage Cloud services.

  • Keep track of ServiceNow requests and incidents to proactively address any issues and concerns.

  • Maintain and manage OS images and ensure the environment is patched regularly.

  • Work with Quest’s consulting partners to service cloud operations.

  • Responsible for enhancing the Cloud operational document repository, standards, SOPs etc.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues, ready to support anytime during production outages.

  • Build and manage relationships with other team members, consulting partners and IT stakeholders

  • Follow leadership directions to meet organization objectives and enable cloud services to enhance cloud operations and administration.

  • Implement and maintain logging and monitoring for Cloud Applications.

  • Implement and manage data backup, snapshots, data recovery etc.

  • Automate the building of Azure Cloud services, security policies, tagging and monitoring.

  • Create and maintain deployment standards to meet cloud architecture standards and maintain an up-to-date cloud document repository.

  • Plan and migrate on-prem applications / services in the cloud.

  • Troubleshoot operational issues related to Infrastructure and Applications.

  • Support inventory management for Cloud environments, including updates to the CMDB.

  • General support for Windows and Linux Operating Systems in the Cloud.

  • Second level technical support for Cloud infrastructure / applications. (Including on-call)
Qualifications
  • Deep knowledge of Azure services, infrastructure and functionality: 

  • All standard IaaS components - Compute, Storage, Networking, Images, ExpressRoute, Load Balancing, Availability Sets, Scale Sets.

  • Common PaaS platforms - AKS, Azure SQL etc.

  • Azure Resource Manager, including developing templates.

  • AzureCLI

  • Cloud Native Security tools and frameworks.

  • Experience working in a regulated environment that handles patient, financial or other confidential data. 

  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (PHI, PCI, SOX, HIPAA, SOC2).

  • Knowledge of security tools – Wiz.io, CrowdStrike etc.

  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes specifically:

    • Native Container Tools (Docker etc.)

    • Vendor Container Service (AKS)

    • Expert level knowledge of pods, nodes, deployments (blue-green, canary, rollbacks etc.), load balancers and Helm charts.

    • Deploying microservices / Java REST based containers.

    • Maintaining Security in a Kubernetes cluster.

    • Deploying tools for container monitoring, metrics and logging.

  • Strong server administration skills (Windows, RHEL and Ubuntu preferred).

  • Hands-on experience with automation, orchestration and system configuration tools (Ansible, Terraform, ARM)

  • Experience with source code management (GitHub and VSTS).

  • Knowledge of infrastructure and application monitoring tools

Required:

  • 2-5 years of professional Azure Cloud experience

Preferred Certification: 

  • Azure Certification

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
