Job Summary

Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU), Extra Help positions are Part-Time, temporary opportunities (maximum of 900 hours of actual work in any consecutive 12 calendar months) available on an as-needed basis, dependent on departmental staffing needs. Extra Help positions are located on NEIU’s 3 campuses. Important to note: while the NEIU posting remains active, there may not always be immediate open opportunities.
NEIU STUDENTS:
Active students currently enrolled in classes at the University are NOT eligible for Extra Help positions per the NEIU Handbook on Student Employment. Students are encouraged to explore other opportunities, such as Student Aide or Work Study roles!
EXTRA HELP OPPORTUNITIES:
Support all NEIU colleges, and can lead to future job opportunities, internships, graduate school applications and more.

Job responsibilities may include:  

  • Perform general office and clerical duties, including filing, record maintenance, data entry, and document organization.

  • Greet and assist visitors, students, and staff in a courteous, professional, and timely manner.

  • Answer, screen, and route incoming phone calls and emails to the appropriate personnel or department.

  • Provide information or assistance regarding departmental programs and/or services.

  • Assist with logistics such as setup, sign-in, communication, and materials preparation.

  • Participate in short-term research or Departmental Special Projects as needed.

  • Assist in creating flyers or promotional materials using templates or software.

  • Collaborate with team members to complete tasks and projects.

  • Specific duties will vary depending on departmental needs and may include other related responsibilities as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training may be required based on departmental needs.

Salary: The hourly rate for this position ranges from $15.00 to $30.00, based on available departmental funding.    

Paid Leave Benefits: The Chicago Paid Leave and the Chicago Paid Sick and Safe Leave are available to hourly employees that are employed in the City of Chicago, including NEIU Extra Help positions.

Hours: Part-Time (Up to 28 hours per week) Monday – Friday, Flexible schedule. (Some position(s) may require evening and weekend availability).
