Sr. Finance Manager

The Sr. Finance Manager is responsible for partnering with company leadership and internal stakeholders to lead the accounting and financial reporting function of a growing Chicago tech startup. Key responsibilities include leading the budget, forecast, month-end close, and reporting functions.

Outcomes:

Lead and provide analytical and strategic support on key Finance team deliverables:

  • The annual budget, monthly review, and variance analysis

  • Financial analysis of internal projects, PoC engagements, prototypes

  • R&D allocations and tracking

  • Board materials preparation

  • Quarterly investor reporting

  • Cap table maintenance, including stock options, RSUs, and supporting additional funding rounds

  • Annual insurance renewals management

Build a solid understanding of our business model, revenue streams, and opportunities within 45 days of the start date and help develop internal- and external-facing projections in support of fund-raising activities:

  • Build or help build projections for individual revenue streams and aggregates at the company level

  • Test assumptions, identify key drivers, and determine our sensitivity to variations in the key drivers.

Manage and improve our internal controls without introducing additional overhead:

  • Oversees the revenue cycle function, including billing through invoices

  • Subscription management

  • Purchasing approvals, expense reporting, and reimbursements

  • Approvals of vendors’ invoices

  • Credit cards 

Manage our interfaces with external accounting partners to improve and accelerate monthly closing and year-end process without adding billable hours:

  • Less time-consuming AP, AR, payroll, account reconciliations

  • More strategic tax planning and reporting, revenue recognition, R&D credit optimization

  • Minimize year-end audit adjustments
