Job Summary

Responsible for managing all aspects of the Company's Liability claims including management of the third party claims administrator, approving cost-effective claim settlements and driving execution of contractual risk transfer strategy. Manages and completes special projects as required by executive management. Supervises administrative functions within the department. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ongoing management of third party claim administrator activities and oversight of guiding documents including Claim Handling Best Practices, Client Service Instructions, Litigation Guidelines, Billing Guidelines and any other documents necessary for a successful claim operation.
  • Collaborates with in-house and outside legal counsel to assure proper claims handling on litigated files. Participates in weekly Suit Committee meetings to evaluate new lawsuits and determine next steps.
  • Serves as liability subject matter expert to businesses as-needed.
  • Conducts claim reviews in partnership with the third party claims administrator to ensure claim handling behavior is aligned with expectations. Provides coaching and direction to claim examiners, as needed.
  • Keeps up to date on all WBA and Divisional business operations to ensure that the liability claims and administrative processes align with corporate goals and objectives.
  • Identifies opportunities for Liability Program enhancements and cost reduction initiatives. Communicates recommendations to leadership.
  • Maintains and applies knowledge of all trends, laws and practices pertaining to the investigation, processing and settlement of Liability claims.
  • Mentors, coaches, and develops team members through orientation, training, establishment of objectives, communication of policies and rules, and constructive discipline; builds morale and motivation.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and at least 2 years of experience in liability claims or High School Diploma/GED and at least 5 years of experience in liability claims.
  • Experience in analyzing and reporting data in order to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement and find solutions.
  • Experience in identifying operational issues, and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using SUM function, setting borders, setting column width, inserting charts, using text wrap, sorting, setting headers and footers and/or print scaling)
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: inserting headers, page breaks, page numbers and tables and/or adjusting table columns)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business Administration, or Risk Management and at least 5 years of experience working in the risk management field or Associate’s Degree and at least 7 years of experience working in the risk management field.
  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Associate in Claims (AIC) and/or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designations.
  • Experience with a large, multi-state or global company in the retail or healthcare sector with a knowledge of global insurance coverages markets, underwriting and risk financing.
