Job Summary
This Senior Tax Consultant role is a full-time employee who will oversee tax compliance throughout the income tax life cycle including managing the consolidated federal income tax return, participating in the quarterly financial statement tax provisions and taxing authority examination inquiries. Responsibilities also include performing tax research, tax analytics, and forecasting of tax projections. This position will also collaborate within the Tax Division on implementing and owning automated technology solutions for improved operational outcomes, in addition to providing exposure to Tax Division leadership.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Perform a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

  1. Manage the completion of the consolidated Federal Corporate Income Tax Return, including preparing and reviewing insurance and non-insurance pro-forma returns within Corptax software, calculating and reviewing book to tax differences and supporting analytics
  2. Oversee tax cash flow, including calculating estimated tax payments, projections of future tax cash flow, and reporting and managing tax cash flow data and analytics
  3. Support income tax accounting and reporting for the quarterly and annual financial statement filings, including utilizing software to calculate tax provisions
  4. Participate in the identification and management of various domestic tax issues, determining the nature and complexity of the issue and scope of assigned projects.
  5. Identify and execute efficiency and technology improvements to enhance existing tax processes and manage tax data
  6. Consult and partner with other corporate finance divisions and business peers to address tax issues and meet organizational objectives.
  7. Stay up-to-date with and educate others of trends and developments in corporate taxation, and insurance industry
  8. Deliver professional and timely services to internal and external customers
  9. Develop, coach and mentor other tax professionals.


May perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  1. Strong knowledge of Sub Chapter C taxation in general, including experience with newly enacted tax legislation. Experience with insurance taxation is a plus.
  2. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and related pronouncements such as Accounting Standards Codification Topic 740: Income Taxes (ASC 740). Knowledge of Statements of Statutory Accounting Principles (SSAP) and Statement of Statutory Accounting Principles No. 101 (SSAP 101) is a plus.
  3. Strong tax research and written communication skills, including memo writing and position documentation
  4. Strong critical thinking and decision making skills, using data to inform decision making.
  5. Strong technology skills with a focus toward automated solutions and ownership of improved operational outcomes. CorpTax software experience is a plus, in addition to Workday general ledger platform experience.
  6. Ability to influence tax and business professionals.
  7. Exhibit leadership skills for other tax professionals to emulate.
  8. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex tax issues in a simplified manner.
  9. Results oriented with the ability to solve problems and work independently and/or in a team environment, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
  10. Strong project management, organizational and planning skills.


Education & Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting. Masters degree of Science in Taxation preferred.
  2. Certified Public Accountant designation.
  3. Minimum of 6-8 years of public or corporate tax experience.
