Under the direction and supervision of the Child Care Coordinator, the Child Care Staff member is responsible for caring for children and leading the activities in the KidNation child care area, following the philosophy and policies of the Gurnee Park District. Staff are expected to work with children ages 3 months to 12 years providing a safe and enjoyable experience to all participants. For scheduling, this position requires someone who can cover a combination of morning shifts and a couple of evening shifts each week, also includes alternating weekends and holidays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Ensure all participants are signed in and have an information form on file
  2. Organize and conduct interactive activities
  3. Encourage individuals to participate in play activities and to reach their needs through these activities
  4. Work with other staff members cooperatively and as a team.
  5. Act as a role model for young children
  6. Provide customer service and friendliness to all participants and parents
  7. Report any problems to the Supervisor
  8. Communicate information, as needed, to staff and patrons
  9. Be knowledgeable of all Gurnee Park District policies and events
  10. Maintain an approachable, friendly appearance with members and guests
  11. Attend all staff meetings and trainings
  12. Arrive on time and dressed appropriately for work
  13. Follow employee manual and procedures

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform all other duties as assigned
  2. Maintain a positive attitude toward all co-workers and participants
  3. Dress appropriately in uniform
  4. Maintain a positive attitude at all times
  5. Act professionally at all times

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: Prefer a high school graduate, may be enrolled in a college/university. High School student standing having experience with children will be considered
  • Education: Minimum of 16 years of age
  • Skills: Must possess the ability to learn new skills and lead activities in a recreational setting.
  • Certifications: CPR, First Aid and AED certification is required or ability to obtain within four weeks
  • Competencies: Ability to participate in group work as applicable to the FitNation child care area. Knowledge of childrens needs and child development for ages 3 months - 12 years is required; Must possess the ability to learn new skills and lead activities in a recreational setting

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. 100% of working hours will be spent in the FitNation Child Care area
  2. Perform hand/arm movements as when cleaning the FitNation Child Care area
  3. Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs
  4. Read handwritten information and write legibly
  5. Duties may include lifting, twisting, bending and squatting as related to the care of children
  6. Stand for long periods of time while leading programs
