About us

At Rectangle, we're solving the single biggest unsolved problem in freight: data fragmentation. The information about a shipment is as valuable as the shipment itself, but today's logistics ecosystem is a mess of incompatible systems, making it impossible to move the data that moves freight.

This creates all kinds of large and expensive problems. Freight brokers, shippers, and logistics service providers all operate in silos, burning tens of billions of dollars and countless hours on manual workarounds that really shouldn't even have to exist in the first place. In turn, we see a staggering domino effect; anything from simple but annoying things like shipments getting delayed, to available capacity going unused, or missed revenue due to pricing asymmetries.

We’re rapidly making progress towards solving those challenges. This is an incredible opportunity to fundamentally reshape how trillions of dollars of goods move globally, unlocking unprecedented levels of efficiency and revenue for our customers.

About you

You have production coding experience on a high caliber and high velocity team. We're a small team, with 3 engineers owning everything; development, testing, infrastructure, and operations. You should be comfortable moving across that entire stack.

You actually enjoy talking to customers and know how to ask the right questions. You can listen to what they need, translate that into clear technical requirements, and use those insights to shape both our product strategy and implementation details.

What you'll build

Customer-facing impact

You'll work directly with customers from day one, onboarding them, getting them to production, and helping them get the most value possible out of our platform.

Core platform ownership

You'll drive our product engineering roadmap, tackle complex technical challenges as we scale, and help shape our strategy for becoming the infrastructure layer for modern logistics companies.

Tech

You'll work across multiple codebases in TypeScript and Golang. Our stack includes Kafka, Redis, and Postgres. We strongly follow IaC principles; if you build it, you run it.

What we're looking for

Must have

  • Strong experience with TypeScript and Golang (or VM/runtime languages)
  • An understanding of DDD, CQRS, and event-sourcing patterns
  • Can design and build public-facing APIs
  • Experience with a relational OTLP database (like Postgres)
  • Experience with a distributed log platform (like Kafka, Kinesis)

Nice to have

  • Exposure to logistics (or an adjacent core industry such as manufacturing)
  • Experience with patterns of workflow and durable execution engines
  • Terraform or similar IaC tools
  • Balancing best-practices and customer value in a startup setting

Why join us

Growth

We're working with some of the top tech-enabled companies in logistics. We've proven product-market fit and demand, and right now our biggest challenge is building fast enough to meet it.

Greenfield opportunity

Help us reshape the foundational infrastructure of a multi-trillion dollar industry. We're starting from first-principles and are not iterating on someone else's playbook.

Ownership

No need to ask for permission to build things that deliver value to our customers. You’ll get end to end ownership over products that enable real revenue and efficiency for our customers.

Team

We’re a small and highly motivated product team who have worked on anything from foundational technology at Flexport and Echo Logistics, self-driving cars, to core AI experiences and products at Google and scalable infrastructure at New Relic. There is zero bureaucracy, and we want to keep it that way.

Investors

We’re backed by leading institutional investors in our industry, as well as strategic industry angels from leading software and logistics companies.
