Overview

Community Talent Partners is working with a partner to identify an experienced Google Workspace Add-on Developer to complete, stabilize, and enhance a Google Docs add-on that integrates with an external communication approval platform. This role focuses on refining existing functionality, strengthening reliability, and supporting the path to production deployment via the Google Workspace Marketplace.

This is a highly specialized engineering role requiring deep expertise in Google Apps Script, OAuth 2.0, and REST API integrations. The ideal candidate has shipped Google Workspace add-ons before and understands the nuances of Apps Script performance, scopes, deployment, and security review.

This is a fully remote engagement. Day-to-day communication with the supervisor and team will take place via Slack or Discord, with structured weekly sync calls to review progress and priorities.

Scope of WorkPhase 1: Complete & Stabilize

· Refactor existing Apps Script files to consolidate API calls using a centralized API client

· Integrate retry logic with exponential backoff for all external requests

· Implement remote content hash comparison to support accurate change detection

· Perform end-to-end testing across key workflows (connect, sync, submit, review)

· Identify and resolve edge cases related to authorization, quotas, and triggers

Phase 2: Enhancements

· Extend the sidebar UI to support AI analysis features (API endpoint already available)

· Add a real-time sync status indicator for improved user feedback

· Improve overall UI responsiveness and error handling

Phase 3: Production Deployment

· Prepare and submit the add-on to the Google Workspace Marketplace

· Ensure compliance with Google security review requirements

· Produce clear documentation for end users (setup, permissions, workflows)

Responsibilities

· Develop and maintain Google Workspace add-on features using Google Apps Script

· Strengthen integration between Apps Script and external REST APIs

· Implement and maintain OAuth 2.0 authentication flows

· Debug and optimize Apps Script execution (quotas, scopes, triggers, performance)

· Collaborate with backend engineers to define API contracts and behaviors

· Own technical readiness for Marketplace publication and compliance

· Produce clean, maintainable, well-documented code

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (preferred)

· 3–5 years of professional software development experience

· Expert-level experience with Google Apps Script

· Proven experience building Google Docs, Sheets, or Gmail add-ons

· Strong JavaScript proficiency (TypeScript a plus)

· Hands-on experience implementing OAuth 2.0 authentication

· Experience integrating external REST APIs into client-side or Apps Script environments

· Experience debugging production issues and handling edge cases

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience publishing to the Google Workspace Marketplace

· Experience with React (especially for sidebar interfaces)

· Familiarity with security review and compliance requirements for Google add-ons

· Experience working with B2B SaaS platforms

· Familiarity with Clerk, Auth0, or similar authentication platforms

· Experience designing sync systems (hashing, diffing, state reconciliation)

Ideal Candidate

· Has published Google Workspace add-ons before

· Can work independently with minimal supervision

· Comfortable working within an existing codebase (not starting from scratch)

· Available to start within 1–2 weeks

· Demonstrates a responsive and professional communication style

Physical Requirements

· Ability to work for extended periods at a computer

· Ability to communicate clearly in written and verbal form

· Ability to participate in remote meetings and collaborative work session
