About R/GA

In our 40-year history, we’ve changed a lot—from a culture-defining film title studio (Superman, Alien, Ghostbusters); to an interactive advertising agency; to an award-winning product and marketing agency with design, technology, communications, ventures and IP practices. We like change, and like to navigate our clients through it too.

Our approach to work is always human first. This unwavering focus helps us create meaningful and memorable experiences that live across digital platforms and often blur the line between the digital and real worlds. We believe disruptive thinking happens when you collide experts in design, technology and culture.

About the Role

As a Group Technology Director at R/GA, you will own the technical delivery strategy and scaled operations for our retained product team - responsible for multiple engineering pods, multiple concurrent workstreams, and multiple client stakeholders, each with their own requirements, timelines, and agendas. You will lead cross-functional engineering teams in building scalable, high-performance fullstack solutions, with a strong focus on global flagship web properties and web-based tools; and are the connective tissue between what the client is trying to achieve and what actually gets built.

This is a hands-on leadership role that requires deep expertise in the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). You will be a primary problem-solver, challenging teams to adopt efficient architectures, rigorous testing standards, and effective delivery methodologies. Most importantly, you will serve as the bridge between client business needs and technical execution, ensuring that our output is not only technically sound but also strategically aligned with the client’s long-term objectives.

Here’s what you should know if you want to be a Group Technology Director at R/GA:

On any given day, you might

  • Lead technical delivery for concurrent programs spanning multiple engineering squads, overseeing the full requirements lifecycle.
  • Help clarify detailed functional requirements and ensure they are prioritized, formally signed off, and rigorously maintained throughout the project lifecycle to ensure traceability, dependency management, and status visibility.
  • Own the operating model of a scaled team, including capacity planning and allocations, role definition and growth paths, and monitoring health metrics like velocity, burn, sprint health, and team engagement.
  • Read team operational signals early, surface constraints before they become blockers, and rebalance the team accordingly.
  • Partner with internal program managers and client stakeholders to scope and roadmap upcoming work by defining the next phase while the team delivers the current one.
  • Translate where the client is headed into a sequenced, resourced technical plan so the team is equipped to deliver at a constant and consistent pace.
  • Develop trusted relationships with client stakeholders, engaging them proactively, and conducting client and team sessions to uncover the true business objectives behind stated needs.
  • Analyze client business processes and requirements and map them to robust technical solutions, providing clarity and a point of view to land technical decisions and drive work forward.
  • Lead and develop a group of technical and engineering leads, managing the overall engineering effort, setting standards, removing blockers, and holding the line on quality and pace.
  • Engage engineering and QA to build a strong technical culture, continually raise the bar on craft, and coach, mentor, and create the conditions for people to learn, grow, and feel rewarded.
  • Stay close enough to the work to lead it well by reading and reviewing code when it matters, reading and writing technical documentation, and making and defending sound technical decisions.
  • Act as the technical driver for performance and lean delivery by proactively challenging teams to consider more efficient technical solutions, identifying opportunities to reduce technical debt, optimizing system performance, and streamlining development workflows.

The ideal person

  • Demonstrates a delivery-operations mindset focused on capacity planning, resourcing and allocations, budgeting, and team-health management across multiple workstreams.
  • Shows proactive innovation through the ability to identify areas of opportunity to add value to clients by making technical processes more efficient and prototyping work that pushes what’s possible.
  • Possesses a knack for integrating AI-based solutions that drive value and cost savings to help clients achieve more.
  • Is a proven client partner with the ability to act as a technical strategist, building relationships, managing expectations under pressure, and steering decisions toward better technical outcomes.
  • Brings people-leadership that shows up in outcomes, resulting in teams that grow, deliver predictably, and contribute to client satisfaction and continued success.
  • Displays exceptional communication skills, confidently leading client conversations, pitches, and presentations while translating technical reality into business value.

You Bring

  • 10+ years of delivery leadership experience at scale, leading complex, concurrent technical programs in an agency or fast-paced product environment, including experience leading through other leads.
  • Strong engineering and architecture expertise with a foundation in technical architecture, actively looking at work at the code level, and writing technical documentation with credibility.
  • Up-to-date knowledge on technical best practices that you can implement with your team.
  • Deep SDLC and delivery fluency with a command of modern delivery practices—including Agile/Scrum at scale, DevOps, CI/CD, release and incident management—and the metrics that make delivery measurable.
  • Deep technical breadth and familiarity with modern web stacks, CMS solutions, fullstack applications and integrations, security best practices, testing and QA automation, and delivery tooling.

*This role is based in the United States. Candidates must be located in the United States and able to work PST hours. Some travel is required for in-person collaboration for team and/or client workshops.

The hiring range for this position is $220,000 to $250,000. Where an employee or prospective employee is paid within this range will depend on, among other factors, actual ranges for current/former employees in the subject position; budgetary considerations; tenure and standing with the company (applicable to current employees); as well as the employee’s/applicant’s applicable skills, pertinent experience, and qualifications.
