Shape AI and digital engineering perspectives, engage executive clients, solve ambiguous problems, scope opportunities, and personally support complex deals. Coach consultants through live engagements, partner with Solutions Consulting, influence hiring and team structure, and help establish a management layer for a team of approximately 30. At Sparq, we help companies solve the right problems—not just build more technology.

We're a modern product engineering partner blending strategy, craftsmanship, and speed to help organizations modernize confidently in the age of AI. From data ecosystems to digital products and AI acceleration, we turn complexity into clarity and ideas into impact.

Why You'll Love This Role:

  • A Strategic, Market-Facing Mandate: This is not primarily an operations role. You'll spend most of your time as a market thought leader, a pre-sales partner, and a creative problem-solver in front of clients — with team and practice management as real, but secondary, parts of the job.
  • Room-Level Credibility: Carry the gravitas to sit across the table from client executives at every altitude — from mid-market leadership teams to Fortune 50 stakeholders — and be trusted in that room from day one.
  • Deals, and the Teaching That Comes With Them: Work live deals personally — not as a figurehead, but shoulder-to-shoulder with the team, in a way that visibly teaches others how to scope, solve, and close. This is a player-coach role, not a "sets vision from a distance" role.
  • Shared Upside: Compensation includes base plus bonus (bonus typically 20–30% of base depending on level). You'll help shape the structure of the team's bonus plan — which in turn will influence your own — so there's real incentive alignment between your success and the team's.
  • A Team to Grow, Not Just Manage: Inherit a consulting team of roughly 30, currently run directly by the COO with no management layer beneath. Building that layer — and developing early-career hires into strong, independent consultants — is part of the mandate, but it's the "and also," not the headline.
  • Genuine Latitude: This is a new role. There's no template to follow — you'll have real influence over how the Head of Consulting function operates going forward.

A Day in the Life:

  • Market & Thought Leadership: Track where AI and digital engineering consulting is headed and turn that into a point of view — one you're comfortable sharing with clients, at industry events, and inside the company.
  • Pre-Sales & Creative Solutioning: Join client conversations early, while problems are still ambiguous. Help scope, co-create solutions, and shape proposals with real creative input — not just review them after the fact.
  • Working Deals, Teaching as You Go: Take point personally on complex or high-stakes opportunities, bringing team members along so they're learning the craft in real time, not just watching from the sidelines.
  • Cross-Functional Connection: Partner closely with the Solutions Consulting function (a separate team reporting to the CEO) — these two groups need to operate as tightly connected partners, even though they sit in different reporting lines.
  • Team & Practice Health: Spend the smaller share of your time on the "inside" work — coaching the team, weighing in on hiring decisions based on business need, and keeping an eye on how the practice is running.

What it takes:

  • Market Credibility: A genuine, current point of view on AI and digital engineering trends, credible enough to lead with clients and represent externally.
  • Executive Presence Across the Client Spectrum: Comfort and trust-building with senior stakeholders from mid-market leadership up through Fortune 50 executives.
  • Pre-Sales & Creative Problem-Solving: Experience shaping deals and solving ambiguous client problems — not just delivering against a defined scope.
  • A Teaching Instinct: Genuine interest in bringing others along while you work — this role is measured partly by how much the team learns from watching you operate, not just by what you personally close.
  • Enough Operational Fluency to Run a Practice Responsibly: Comfort with hiring decisions, team structure, and practice health — without needing this to be the main focus of the role.

Scope & Reporting:

  • Reports to the COO, who owns delivery
  • Focused and measured on % of revenue that is AI-related and/or outcome-priced
  • Hiring authority to make decisions based on business need
  • Works in close partnership with Solutions Consulting — connectivity between the two groups is expected, not optional
  • Remote; travel expected up to ~25%, driven by client preference for in-person vs. remote engagement

What Success Looks Like:

  • Market presence: Recognized point of view — internally and externally — on where AI-driven consulting is headed, visible through client conversations, content, or speaking engagements
  • Pre-sales impact: Improved win rate and deal quality on strategic or complex opportunities where you were personally involved
  • Teaching effect: Visible growth in the team's ability to scope and sell — evidence that people are learning from working deals alongside you, not just watching
  • Practice health: The team is structured sensibly as it grows, with early progress toward building a management layer beneath you
  • Incentive alignment: Meaningful input into the team bonus plan structure, with early signs it's driving the right behaviors (deal flow, faster delivery, margin discipline)

Regardless of your specific role, we seek individuals who are excited to explore, adopt, and evangelize AI tools and methodologies. If you have experience in AI or a proven track record of rapidly learning and mentoring others on emerging tech, you’ll fit right in.
