Your future team: Search Serving Platform
We're transforming Atlassian and Rovo Search is at the very heart of it. Unlocking instant access to relevant enterprise knowledge that is integrated across all fragmented sources, unlocks decision making, understanding and actions for humans and agents alike. Our mission on the Search Serving Platform team is to drive this transformation by delivering low-latency, highly-relevant, and reliable search experience for all Atlassian users across all surfaces by powering scalable runtime systems, query orchestration, and robust serving infrastructure. Fast, accurate results for every query.
We're looking for an experienced Engineering Leader to lead our growing Search Serving Platform organization. You will bring a wealth of experience in managing teams globally, deep expertise in search systems and success in delivering highly technical multi-quarter roadmaps on the journey to building the world's most transformative enterprise search experience. You will also need to be comfortable with ambiguity and possess tools to work through ambiguity, craft strategy and drive execution. You will be able to inspire your teams, distributed across geographies, and guide them to world-class engineering and operational standards while helping define and drive our long term technical strategy for cutting edge search.
  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent experience
  • 12+ years of experience developing large scale distributed systems.
  • 8+ years of experience managing software development teams driving large projects with complex dependencies and multiple stakeholders.
  • 2+ years of experience leading teams running search systems at scale.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills and a track record of cross-group/cross-discipline collaboration.
  • Experience managing managers and a track record of scaling global organizations with 50+ engineers. Experience working with and leading teams across geographies.
  • You will demonstrate defining and communicating a long-term technical vision and inspiring your team around a shared vision for success. Given the high rate of innovation in search, you will keep yourself updated with the latest technological breakthroughs and provide active guidance to your teams.
  • You will be able to build a deep understanding of both business and engineering metrics and drive a culture of reliability, security and productivity.
  • You will champion developer productivity and empower engineers to invest in the right tooling at the right time.
  • Ability to hire, onboard, and retain top talent for your team and foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence. Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor team members.
  • You will have strong empathy and a bias for action.
  • Quick learner who thrives in an ambiguous environment.

Compensation
At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:
Zone A: $239,400 - $312,550
Zone B: $216,000 - $282,000
Zone C: $198,900 - $259,675
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
