The HR, People, and Culture Specialist is a forward-thinking leader responsible for development and implementation of organizational HR practices at Climate Defiance. This individual will establish and oversee processes that attract, retain and develop a diverse, talented, and united workforce.

This role has oversight in the areas of employee relations, conflict resolution, HR policies, and performance management.

The HR, People, and Culture Specialist works closely with the Executive Director and Climate Defiance's Directors -- with opportunities for input and consultation from board of the directors -- to develop and implement HR strategies that align with the organization's goals, promote a positive workplace culture, and enhance employee engagement and performance.
Primary Responsibilities include:

Employee Relations

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure a positive and cohesive work environment.
  • Institute a standard operating procedure for handling grievances. Address employee concerns and grievances in a timely and effective manner.
  • Foster open communication and collaboration between Executive Director, staff members, board members, and volunteers.
  • Provide opportunities for check-ins with all staff members to address outstanding staff needs and emotional wellbeing.

Personnel files/ Performance Management

  • Maintains confidential personnel files and ensures employee records are accurate, complete, and compliant with organizational policies.
  • Support the organization's performance management process, including ensuring performance reviews are filed in personnel files.

Talent Management

  • Lead onboarding for all-staff.
  • Oversee pay equity audits, in coordination with the Board, to ensure staff compensation is equitable and competitive.
  • Oversee exit interviews to develop strategies for employee retention, training opportunities, and areas for improvement
  • Develop and implement training and development programs to enhance employee skills and career growth

Strategic Planning

  • Collaborate with staff in leadership roles to align HR strategies with organizational goals
  • Monitor industry trends and best practices to ensure competitive HR offerings

HR Policies, Compliance, and Reporting

  • Bi-annually review and revise policy manual to ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations
  • Prepare and present HR reports to senior management, highlighting key metrics and insights

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree, Master's preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of HR experience in a progressive organization, with a focus on employee relations, conflict resolution, and performance management
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within human resources
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations
  • Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions
  • HR Certification is a plus

Details: This a consulting position, at an hourly rate with no additional benefits. The anticipated hours for the role are 10 to 15 hours per week. Compensation is between to $80–$100 per hour, depending on experience.
