Job Title: Human Resources Manager – Uganda
Reports to: Regional Head of Human Resources
Location: Uganda
Work Schedule: Full-time
Job Grade: Management Level

Brief Job Description:

The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for leading and executing HR strategies to support business objectives within the pharmaceutical industry. This role requires a seasoned HR professional with a strong background in talent management, employee relations, HR compliance, and organizational development. The HR Manager will drive initiatives that enhance employee engagement, regulatory compliance, and overall workforce efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Lead end-to-end recruitment processes, ensuring the attraction and retention of top talent.

  • Develop and implement structured onboarding programs to facilitate seamless integration of new hires.

  • Partner with department heads to forecast workforce needs and develop hiring strategies.

2. Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Act as the primary HR contact for employees, providing guidance on HR policies and conflict resolution.

  • Develop and implement employee engagement programs to enhance workplace culture and productivity.

  • Mediate workplace disputes and ensure a positive and collaborative work environment.

3. HR Compliance & Policy Implementation

  • Ensure compliance with Ugandan labor laws and industry-specific regulations.

  • Develop, update, and enforce HR policies to align with legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Prepare and maintain documentation for internal audits and inspections.

4. Performance Management & Learning Development

  • Implement performance management frameworks to drive a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Develop and oversee training and development programs, ensuring employees' professional growth.

  • Monitor employee progress and provide recommendations for career development and succession planning.

5. Compensation, Benefits & HR Systems

  • Manage payroll, benefits administration, and other compensation-related activities.

  • Oversee HRIS (Human Resource Information System) to ensure accuracy in employee records and reporting.

  • Conduct periodic salary benchmarking and benefits analysis to remain competitive in the industry.

6. Workforce Planning & Organizational Development

  • Analyze workforce data to inform strategic HR decisions and optimize operational efficiency.

  • Develop initiatives that foster talent retention, succession planning, and leadership development.

  • Collaborate with leadership to align HR strategies with business goals.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in HR leadership roles, preferably within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.

  • Registered and licensed with HRMAU.

  • Strong knowledge of Ugandan labor laws and HR best practices.

  • Proficiency in HRIS and MS Office Suite.

  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.

Desirable:

  • Professional HR certification (e.g., CHRP, CIPD, SHRM).

  • Experience in change management and organizational development.

  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
