Job Title: HR Manager / Business Development Manager

Reports To: VP of Sales / Senior HR Manager

Department: Sales & HR Services

Location: Remote — Chicago, IL Required

Split: 50% HR Management / 50% Business Development

About Flex HR:

Flex HR is a fast-growing HR outsourcing company based in Alpharetta, GA, right outside of Atlanta with a sub location in Chicago, IL. We work with companies in a variety of industries to help them manage their human resources and payroll. We are a team of professionals who consistently provide our clients with white-glove customer service. We combine experienced HR Managers, Payroll Managers, Consultants, Recruiters, and leading payroll platforms into tailored solutions for each client.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic, experienced professional for a unique dual-function role at Flex HR. In this position, you will divide your time equally between two critical areas: HR Management and Business Development. As an HR Manager, you will serve as the primary HR partner for a portfolio of Flex HR clients, providing daily operational HR support, compliance guidance, and white-glove employee service. As a Business Development Manager, you will manage the full inbound sales process — from the moment a lead arrives to the moment a signed agreement is in hand.

This role is ideal for an experienced HR professional who is energized by client relationships, comfortable in a consultative sales environment, and excited to contribute to Flex HR's growth while doing meaningful HR work. You will be responsible for both retaining and delighting current clients and bringing in new ones.

Job Responsibilities:

HR Management — 50% of Role:

  • Serve as the primary HR point of contact for an assigned portfolio of Flex HR clients and their employees

  • Manage the complete new hire onboarding process including offer letters, HRIS/payroll platform onboarding, and benefits orientation

  • Support benefits enrollment, HSA/FSA changes, 401(k) rollovers, loans, and distribution requests for client employees

  • Coach client managers through Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs), conflict resolution, and employee relations issues

  • Assist clients with employee terminations including state-required forms, separation documents, and witness support on termination calls

  • Lead quarterly reviews for assigned clients and conduct virtual office hours to provide ongoing HR support to client employees

  • Administer workers' compensation claims and ensure client compliance with labor laws and multi-state regulations

  • Complete periodic audits, monthly benefits reconciliations, and maintain accurate client records

  • Coordinate employee recognition activities including monthly birthday updates and annual anniversary celebrations

  • Foster a positive workplace environment for clients through strong communication and conflict resolution support

  • Act as liaison between departments to resolve client and employee issues promptly and professionally

  • Work across multiple payroll and HRIS platforms including Netchex, Paylocity, Gusto, ADP, Paychex, and others

  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism in all client and employee interactions

  • Maintain a willingness to take on additional responsibilities as assigned by management

Business Development — 50% of Role:

  • Respond to inbound leads from the Flex HR website and phone system within 30 minutes during business hours

  • Conduct structured discovery calls to uncover each prospect's HR and payroll pain points, employee count, current platform, benefits structure, and implementation timeline

  • Qualify leads using BANT criteria — Budget, Authority, Need, and Timeline — and prioritize your pipeline accordingly

  • Build and send customized proposals within one business day of each discovery call, combining Flex HR services tailored to each client's specific needs

  • Manage the full sales pipeline in HubSpot — creating and maintaining Contact, Company, and Deal records after every interaction

  • Execute a consistent follow-up cadence and move deals forward through each HubSpot pipeline stage

  • Manage the post-close process including file management, and client hand-off to the delivery team

  • Recognize and escalate fraudulent inquiries, underfunded prospects, and leads unlikely to be a good long-term fit for Flex HR

General Job Requirements:

  • Be part of an organization that is team-based, positive, and helpful

  • Always make ethical decisions and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism

  • Continue to learn and grow in both HR and sales disciplines

  • Think critically about how to solve problems and work smarter, not harder

  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism in all client, prospect, and internal interactions

Job Requirements:

  • 4-6 years of HR management experience, preferably in an outsourced or consulting capacity supporting multiple clients simultaneously

  • Demonstrated experience in B2B sales or account management role, ideally in professional services, HR, or payroll

  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, labor laws, multi-state compliance, and HR operations

  • Excellent consultative communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to manage a full sales cycle from first contact through signed agreement

  • Experience with CRM platforms, preferably HubSpot — consistent and timely logging is non-negotiable

  • Proficiency working across multiple HRIS platforms

  • Strong organizational skills — you manage competing priorities across both client delivery and business development without losing momentum in either

  • Ability to handle sensitive employee and client information confidentially and professionally

  • Will demonstrate confidence and ability to handle a wide variety of situations with strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and exceptional problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work in a high-energy, fast-paced environment while delivering high-quality and exceptional service

  • Familiarity with payroll platforms such as Netchex, Paylocity, Gusto, ADP, Paychex, Paycom, Paycor, or Rippling is highly desirable

  • A minimum of an associate's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience (a plus)

  • SHRM or HRCI certification is a plus.

Featured Benefits:

  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits with a significant portion of the benefit premium covered by the company

  • HSA, FSA, and Dependent Care Spending Accounts

  • Company-paid Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Short-Term Disability

  • 401(k) plan with a 4% company match

  • Flexible Paid Time Off starting at 3 weeks per year, increases with length of service

  • 12 paid holidays annually

  • Educational Assistance

  • Company Wellness Program through Wellsteps

Featured Perks:

  • $250 employee referral bonus

  • Monthly tech reimbursement

  • Birthday day off

  • Continuous training and development

  • Virtual Flex Fun Club

  • Employee discount savings program

  • Great remote working environment — energetic, friendly, fun, and collaborative

  • Access to a financial advisor for financial planning and consulting

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing essential job functions. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions. In the general office environment, some stress may occur in meeting project deadlines. In this job, you will use office equipment and the computer for approximately 90% of the workday.
