AmericanAg®, a global provider of diversified reinsurance services, is looking for a Human Resources Director to join our Administration team in Schaumburg, Illinois. This is a hybrid position working in the office a minimum of three days a week.   

The Human Resources Director will be a key member of the Administration leadership team and will be responsible for leading and elevating our Human Resources and Payroll functions. This hands-on role oversees the Human Resources functions for American Agricultural Insurance Company (AmericanAg®) and American Farm Bureau Insurance Services (AFBIS), including employee relations, compliance, payroll, recruiting, benefits, compensation, training, and performance management.

The Human Resources Director will:

  • Serve as a strategic Human Resources advisor to the organization. Provide expert consultative and problem-solving services to managers and employees.
  • Provide coaching and support to mid and senior-level managers to improve their leadership effectiveness.
  • Manage and develop a team of three HR professionals to enhance skill sets and prepare them for advancement opportunities.
  • Address all employee relations issues and lead investigations in a prompt, fair, and consistent manner with sensitivity to legal and reputational risks.
  • Coach and partner with managers to resolve complex ADA, FMLA, and accommodation issues.
  • Formalize Human Resources processes and procedures to ensure consistency, appropriate documentation, and compliance with all relevant state and federal laws.
  • Oversee benefits administration, including vendor management, renewals, and government reporting. Serve as an advisor to the Benefits Administration Committee.
  • Develop and formalize compensation programs, including pay grades, pay ranges, and bonus levels.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws; maintain up-to-date HR policies and monitor compliance.
  • Assist with or oversee employee engagement, recognition, DEI, wellness, and retention programs.
  • Lead and implement training and development programs to encourage growth and development and address performance gaps.
  • Lead and support initiatives to foster a high-performance culture with a focus on accountability, compliance, and ethical behavior.
  • Monitor legislation and identify emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.
  • Maintain relationships with Farm Bureau® HR staff and coordinate the annual Farm Bureau® HR Conference.

What you will bring to this position:

  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role.
  • Bachelor’s degree; master’s degree is a plus.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to drive HR initiatives and build out processes and procedures in a growing organization.
  • High attention to detail; proven methods of documentation and follow-through.
  • Deep knowledge of employee relations, ADA/accommodations, employment laws, compliance, and HR best practices.
  • Deep knowledge of employee relations, compliance, and employment laws, including but not limited to ADA, FMLA, ERISA, ACA, OSHA, Title VII, FLSA, and ADEA.
  • Experience in all HR functions: employee relations, recruiting, terminations, benefits, compensation, training, and coaching.
  • Insurance industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $150,000-$175,000. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position is also eligible for an annual bonus. Expected travel is 10-20%.
