Union Tank Car Company (UTLX) is the largest manufacturer, lessor, and maintainer of railcars in North America, with more than 125 years of history. Owned by Marmon Holdings, a Berkshire Hathaway company, UTLX operates a diversified fleet and a network of manufacturing and repair facilities across North America. UTLX headquarters is located in Chicago, IL. This internship is a full-time in office-based position requiring 5 days in the Chicago office.

per week in the Chicago office during the summer program.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Human Resources Intern will support key HR initiatives across the employee lifecycle, with a primary focus on onboarding, manager enablement, rewards and recognition, and engagement programs. This role is designed to provide hands-on exposure to core HR work and strategic projects while partnering closely with HR leadership and stakeholders across the organization.

KEY PROJECTS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Support the design and enhancement of Marmon’s WOW onboarding experience, including content development, feedback analysis, and continuous improvement activities.

- Assist in the development and standardization of Site Manager and Leader communication toolkits to support consistent messaging and people leadership practices.

- Provide analytical and administrative support for EWA compensation evaluation efforts, including data organization, benchmarking support, and documentation.

- Contribute to the standardization of engagement and recognition programs, including program materials, best practices, and communication assets.

- Assist with the review, organization, and maintenance of job descriptions and other core HR documentation.

- Support additional HR initiatives related to talent, culture, and employee experience as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or a related field.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively in a team environment.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.

- Interest in pursuing a career in Human Resources or people-related functions.

Pay Range:

18.90 - 23.10
