The Role: Incident Commander

The Incident Commander leads the regional response during active data center incidents. You coordinate Mission Control, Site Operations, Engineering, Availability Engineering, Forensic Engineering, DCOF, CLRM, and customer-facing teams around incident objectives, escalation needs, and restoration priorities. You keep response activities organized, communications clear, and the incident moving toward mitigation and formal closure. After closure, you coordinate with Forensic Engineering when an RCA is required or support the Post Incident Report when external customer communication is needed.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead command and control during active data center incidents within the assigned region.

  • Establish incident objectives, priorities, and response direction based on the conditions of the event.

  • Coordinate response activities across Mission Control, Site Operations, Engineering, Availability Engineering, Forensic Engineering, DCOF, CLRM, and customer-facing teams.

  • Maintain clear, timely communication so involved teams understand incident status, priorities, decisions, and next steps.

  • Identify escalation needs and align the appropriate teams and resources around mitigation and restoration priorities.

  • Drive incidents through mitigation, restoration, and formal closure while maintaining clear ownership of response activities.

  • Coordinate with Forensic Engineering after an incident when a Root Cause Analysis is required.

  • Support development of the Post Incident Report when an event requires external customer communication.

What We’re Looking For
  • Sound judgment when making decisions during time-sensitive, mission-critical incidents.

  • Clear, direct communication that gives teams the information they need to act.

  • Ability to coordinate multiple technical and operational teams around a common incident objective.

  • Consistent follow-through from initial response through mitigation and formal closure.

  • Ability to remain focused on established protocols, risks, priorities, and customer impact during an active incident.

  • A team-focused approach that supports effective response across departments while maintaining clear accountability.

What You’ll Bring
  • Experience supporting or leading incident response in a mission-critical, data center, infrastructure, or similar operational environment.

  • Experience coordinating technical and operational teams during complex incidents.

  • Working knowledge of incident management, escalation, mitigation, restoration, and closure processes.

  • Ability to assess changing incident conditions and make operational decisions with significant impact.

  • Experience communicating incident status, decisions, risks, and priorities to technical and business stakeholders.

  • Ability to lead complex work across teams without direct management authority.

  • Relevant experience and demonstrated expertise consistent with a P4 Lead-level role.

We encourage qualified candidates to apply even if they do not meet every listed qualification.
